the only team I see falling out of contention would be Portland... we need to leapfrog the Jazz starting with a victory this week and then beat Portland to take over the 9th spot.

from there, we can gain ground on golden State and hold on to the 8th seed for the rest of the season

these next five games are important: we need to win 4 out of 5 games to keep up with the pack...

Seattle, at Seattle, at portland, utah, GSW

Actually if the Rockets continue to improve I can see them finishing the year around 24-18. That would be an amazing run for them from where they are.

That would give them a record of 44-38.

    Maybe an 7-8th seed.

I am thinking if they stay healthy they have a decent shot at the playoffs.
I don't think they will get in if TMac doesn't play at least 35 of the remaining 42 games.

If Yao goes down- forget it.

I hope they draw a first round series against SA, they match up well with the Spurs.

There is a fundamental dichotomy: What I *want* to happen and what I *think* will happen.

Think about the Superbowl. Most Giants fans want the Giants to win the superbowl; however, most also think that the Pats will win.

We can beat Seattle, and maybe GSW, and I think we can kick Utah's butt.......I will go on record as saying we beat all 5! :D

Some good points here but I would be much more concerned with just MAKING THE PLAYOFFS as opposed to worrying about individual matchups. We are NOT in the same position as previous seasons (excluding the injury-riddled one) where we were a virtual lock to at least make the playoffs.

Simply, by choice. I am a diehard Rockets fan. All Rockets fans don't have to think alike.

I wish the Rockets were clearly a playoff team, but I don't see it that way. Sorry to disappoint you.

The winning streaks needs to start now before we fall way behind and the season is lost. Some1 needs to show them old games of the Championship Rockets and preceding years. This team has enough speed to be fast break team, with good three point shooters, #1 center and stifling defence just like the 90s Rockets. There's no doubt in my mind about that, the only thing that's missing is the fast break and making the shots (three and two point shots), Yao and the defence are there so i hope we're going to see more fast break points and better FG% and 3pt%. Also those freethrows need to be taken care off because i watched the game vs. Pistons @ home last weekend and they shot 3/17 which was really embarassing.

Portland just won on a last second shot in OT, their luck will run out soon.

Minny just beat the Warriors. As it stands now Rockets are 3 losses behind Portland (7th) and 1 loss behind Utah and GS.

In such a tight race Rocks next 4 games could be very important. They face @Seattle, @Portland, Utah, then Golden State.

If you spent half as much energy sending good vibes towards the success of the Rockets, as you do predicting our doom, someone might believe you.

GSW's position just doesn't look safe to me. They just lost to a slumping Timberwolves team on a 10 game losing streak. They are playing worse than us, right now and have the same number of losses as the Jazz.

Their playoff position doesn't look safe to me. It would be understandble if they were playing this bad because of a B-Diddy injury. Then, you have hope that the team will make a run, when he returns from injury.

Brooksball may you see GSW as having a lock on the 8th seed. I just don't see it. :)

try to think about this. if ur friend got cancer and everyone know he will die. how would u say to him? face the reality, u will die? as his friend, u could not say these words anyway.
let's look about ROX, 22w19l the system getting better, tmac is back, rookies are amazing, schedule is easier(comparative), everything is on the track, we are not cancer, we just got flu, how could u say "no way" in this situation? anyway, face the reality, u are not ROX fan

I'm not shallow enough to discredit any writer if that is his vocation, but his article doesn't mention any reason to why Houston will not make the playoffs he only uses the quote that their role players [Rockets] are inferior to those of the other teams, which is debatable. He gives no other reasoning, any statistics of any sort, or any evidence other than just a feeling.

I guess I expecting the same thing from you, to provide any sort of reasoning (I have read your previous posts) other than just a feeling that the Rockets will lost, but then again this is just an opinion thread.

Well, first think about the conference final; how many people expected the Giants to even reach the Superbowl? The fundamental dichotomy of what I *want* and what I *think* sometimes aren't that different. It's not like the Rockets are a bottom feeding team like the Wolves (yet they just beat GS) trying to tank the season to get a high draft pick...though there seems to be a significant amount of people on this forum that feels they should.

Brooksball, I wouldn't trust that Dallas writer's feelings about the playoffs. His feelings were wrong last year.

Brooksball, Can the Lakers keep winning with Ariza out for 8 weeks(March 21, 2008) and Bynum not expected back until the playoffs? I don't think DJ Mbenga and Kwame Brown can match Bynum's production. I don't think Coby Karl can be the defensive stopper that Ariza was.
