Wait .. just one game ago, you said that we definitely have no chance due to the trade. You're already starting to back off that?

    Hallelujah!

Thank you for the breathing room. I used my head because my heart was disappointing me. I saw just how deep the West had become this year.

One thing I hope people realize is that I am a diehard Rockets fan. I just had serious doubts about their playoff chances.

I still do but less than before. So, yes, my viewpoint has changed slightly but with 27 games left and a tougher schedule ahead, I still have doubts.

When I said crack the top 8, I meant make the playoffs. Your choice on whether to believe me.

I have picked up my towel, but I am not waiving it yet so to speak.

Honestly, if I had to bet money (which I never do when it involves my team), I would still say the Rockets don't make the playoffs. I know that will bother people who don't like hearing such a prediction but that is what I think.

On the other hand, I do hope that the Rockets make the playoffs.

Not yet, stay tuned. If the Rockets keep it up, I will eat my words.

We've got a brutal March and April schedule:

    March
    2 vs Den (loss)
    5 vs Ind
    6 at Dal (loss)
    8 vs NO (loss)
    10 vs NJ
    12 at Atl
    14 vs Cha
    16 vs LAL (loss)
    18 vs Bos (loss)
    19 at NO (loss)
    21 at GS (loss)
    22 at Pho (loss)
    24 vs Sac
    26 vs Min
    30 at SA (loss)

    April
    11 vs Pho (loss)
    13 at Den (loss)
    14 at Uta (loss)

That's twelve potential losses (assuming we beat all the team we suppose to beat) and that'd put our record at 50 and 32 with a chance of missing the playoff.

look dude, we're just basketball fans here. none of us are mind readers. sorry for that failing, I guess when one reads a post that goes something like: "OMG TEH ROCKETS NO WAI WE MAKE THE PLAYOFFS TRASH YOUR SEASON TIXS BURN YOUR JERSIES! IT'S OVER!" we're supposed to know what he's actually thinking is, "statistically speaking, empirical evidence seems to indicate a fluctuating probability of Houston making the playoffs versus 8 other competitors." plus all the addendums, backtracks and clarifications he's posting.

see, I didn't realize, it's a keyboard malfunction, he thought one thing, typed one thing and something else showed up on the screen...

actually if BB had stuck to his guns and kept posting throughout this thread, "no this run is a fluke the rockets HAVE NO CHANCE" to make the playoffs then that would be one thing (obstinate, poorly supported, but still consistent). the fact that he's changing his story to "I said cracking the top 8... I meant the playoffs." "I said no chance... I meant we're not a cinch" "I said got to be crazy... meant not crazy" etc means that he himself knows that his original bombastic prediction is already wrong and is backtracking just to avoid simply saying 'heh, my bad fellas."

why am I thinking that this "admission" will be along the lines of "rockets are a LOCK for the WCF... BOOK IT (GUARANTEED)" or something else dramatic

no that's assuming we beat all the teams we're supposed to beat, and lose to all the teams we're supposed to lose to. statistically speaking, things going down like that most likely wont happen.

no one thinks the playoffs is a lock. word on the street is that this is the tightest western conference race in a long while.

the fact that things are so tight with so many teams in contention (including the rockets) directly contradicts the blanket statement that the rockets "have no chance"

????? How do you figure this? You still don't think we can make the playoffs? Do you know that we only have to go 15-12 the rest of the way to win 50 games????

I assume we'd beat a couple of good team that I penciled in the potential loss column but also likely we'd loose a few games to teams that we're suppose to beat and the net effect is a 50-32 record which may or may not get Rockets in the playoff this year.

Haven't Rockets beaten each of these teams at least once this season?
And you count all of these games as potential losses as a whole. Way to be a Rockets fan.

What it boils down to is whether you think the Rockets team that beat NO the other night was a fluke or not. I don't think that's the case. I see that victory as evidence that:

    * RA's system works when executed properly.

    * The Rox players have finally learned that system well enough to take advantage of what it offers each of them.

    * Landry and Scola are both comfortable now and likely to keep contributing from here on out -- maybe even in a bigger way as they keep getting regular minutes.

    * T-Mac is FINALLY adapting to the offense, something he seemed to be resisting for the first 40 or so games.

    * The JVG defensive work ethic stuck and these guys like that part of their identity.

    * Our team chemistry is awesome. We now have an eager second unit that doesn't resent not starting and a bench full of cheerleaders.

Barring major injuries, the only thing holding this team back from winning it all is whether or not McGrady can get that dominating, win-at-all-costs mindset that Dream and Jordan had. And that's a HUGE if, because he hasn't shown it for more than a handful of individual games throughout his career.

    Forgot one important thing:

    * In this particular system, Rafer is a very capable PG. That could never be said under JVG's system.

Your an idiot... Phoenix and Houston will be a game the Rockets could go (2-0) against them because Phoenix doesn't play fast anymore like they used too. Denver isn't better than Houston, they have lost so many games to teams they should have killed. 2nd on my ignore list is spaldingtatoos.

FYI: It isn't tatoos it's tattoos, go back to school dropout!

lol. exactly. you gotta look at every game a potential win. you never know what'll come up. who would've known we'd blow out the hornets. the rockets have only solidified there chemistry amongst each other with carl landry a great power forward to finish a game. mcgrady is getting back on his game. yao ming always does what he does with his double doubles and shane battier always putting up a fight. rafer alston is making his assists and shots when needed to. as of bench, we could use better players and hopefully jackson and/or novak can help out for our playoffs.

wrong again! can you give us a date when you will admit you were wrong?

also, would you do what you said would do and work on not posting three or four times in a row one after another.

remember, it's not good etiquette as someone already mentioned.

you said you would work on it. thanks!

Brooksball is lookin like a moron at this point. 'Playoff's? No way!' comment will be remembered a long time. It really annoyed me when he said it originally and I felt that the odds were 'decent' at worse.

Blanket statements are generally foolish to make. The other thing that really annoyed me about Brooksball was his game predicitons. Game 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 etc.. almost all = L. What would our overall record be by BB's predicions...

I think he's here either to cause misery or simply to cause big fights. No idea what he is attempting to accomplish.

50 games this season may not guarantee a playoff spot.

27 games left and the schedule gets much more difficult than it has been over the last 20+ games while we are only 2 games out of the 9th spot.

Yes, I think we can make the playoffs. Obviously, if we win enough games to finish in the 8th spot or higher, we will make the playoffs.

I have doubts that we will.
