oh no doubt its gonna be a struggle i mean maybe im being naive but i just couldnt fathom the thought of this team not making the playoffs cause this schedule looks so much easier from here on out. I mean i had us winning it all this year and to not even make the playoffs seems ludacris to me. Portland is not even the picture so its a 5 team race with 4 spots between denver, houston, utah, goldenstate, and la. Its just crazy to think one of the teams will not even make the playoffs because whoever does not get in has got to be one of the best teams ever to not make the playoffs.

No, I shouldn't have used those words originally.

I just don't believe we will make the playoffs.

The fight for the 8th and final playoff spot will probably not be decide until the last game or two of the season. It is a shame that two teams that would otherwise deserve to be in the playoffs will not make it because they play in the wrong conference.

The 2001 Rockets won 45 games and MISSED the playoffs. At the time it was the best team record in NBA history to NOT make the playoffs.

That record might get broken this year. Ironically it might be the Rockets again... :(

    playoff format restructuring perhaps?

the Atlanta Hawks do NOT deserve a postseason berth. teams like the Bucks and Knicks shouldnt have a prayer of reaching the playoffs. but thats just how it is...

if the Rockets got to make the playoffs with 35 wins I wouldnt care that much..

Yup, no ground gained on teams ahead of us tonight.

    Jazz and Nuggets win.

Hypothetically, do you think Mike Bibby would provide us with the missing piece? I think he is a little bit overrated and overpaid at this point in his career.

The Rockets have to make some kind of move before the trade deadline if they wan't to make noise.

The Lakers just got awesome with the Gasol acquisition. Webber can't hurt the Warriors as frontcourt players are their biggest weakness.

What can we do by 2/21?

If we were in the East, we would be 3rd best team in the conference. Playoffs should be restructured....the 9th thru 11th WC team is probably better than 6 to 8 best EC teams.

The Rockets will make past the first round this year and march to the Finals.

i was hoping utah would be the other to fall out but now they have it clicking and their schedule is about as easy as ours the rest of the way. :(

dont know if this is worth anything, but here is remaining schedule against above .500 teams

    GS - 19

    hou - 18

    utah - 18

    den - 22 <--- brutal

    portland - 19

even with denver's tough schedule, i cant see them falling out without more injuries.

It's not "probably better ". 10th WC team is definitely much much better than 6th EC team.

I really don't see the Rockets doing anything but holding ground in February. Yes, the Rox have an easy schedule for the month but so do the teams they're chasing. To actually make ground the Rockets are going to have to prevail in March, when the Western conference teams go up against one another in gladiatorial combat to decide the playoff teams.

I think it's fool's gold to think that the Rox can get into the playoffs by beating up powder puffs in February. This team needs to go toe to toe with the Western conference elite and win to get into the playoffs. Does anyone think that's possible given the Rockets' current play?

Denver plays Portland on the road on Monday. They both can't get wins then!

True, although we need to make up ground against *both* of them.

well, we have defeated every team ahead of us aside dallas, and NO (should have won), right ? we can do this man.

i think it is possible because we still have pretty good defense. the offense is still trying to catch up, but beating practicing on some easier teams in feb can only help us get that on track.

We have already beaten San Antonio twice, Portland twice, Golden State, Utah, Denver, Phoenix and the Lakers.

And the Hornets play the Jazz. Later in the week, Hornets-Suns, Jazz-Nuggets.

If the Rockets keep winning, they WILL make up ground.

With each game passing by, this thread looks more and more like reverse fortune telling.

We still have at least 18 tough games left. I don't know why people think we have an easy schedule to finish the season. I consider Sacramento a tough team now with Martin, Bibby, Artest and Miller and their bench depth.

    Hornets x 3
    Suns x 2
    Nuggets x 2
    Blazers x 2
    Kings x 3
    Mavericks
    Celtics
    Lakers
    Warriors
    Spurs
    Jazz
    ---------
    = 18 tough games
