holy crap it sucks that we've become THIS franchise....celebrating first round playoff victories like they're championships.
A lot is going to depend if Morey does make a trade come tomorrow. WE will know more information regarding this team come 2:30 PM tmorrow. The Rockets can be a very dangerous team but it's going to depend on how they gel. I'm not saying they can win the West, but there's always a puncher's chance.
If you guys are so worried about playing LA or San Antonio, why even consider making the playoffs? "We need a high seed to avoid SA and LA in the 1st round" pretty much translates to 2nd round exit, no?
With Yao and Artest being healthy, the Rockets should have HCA and make the 2nd round at least. I am really optimistic now.
i concur. barring major injury (which is a concern with this team), I think we're favorites in the first round fo sho.
Honestly, over the past 2 years this team seems to play better when playing good teams and when no one expects them do anything. I actually would prefer a good match where we are the 5th or 6th seed without home court and have them come out with everyone saying they have no chance.
it's all up for grabs right now, phx losing amare, lakers losing bynum, utah losing boozer, but getting him back now, you can expect theyll drop a few getting him back into game shape and in the system
To get under the 4 spot San Antonio will have to lose 5 more games than we do to close it out. Not likely, but possible. So 4 is the best we have available to us at the moment. Tonights game might be a good indicator on how we handle the more athletic teams the rest of the way. That could be what Morey had in mind with Lowry and Cook. Maybe we see Cook in the game tonight to spread the floor out, and make those lean PF's run a bit.
record still counts. a div. #1 could be the 4th seed, and could be w/o homecourt if the #5 has a better record.
Each division #1 team holds the first three spots, then the best team record takes over from spots 4 thru 8. From Wikepedia: Format The 2009 format will be the same as 2008's format. The top 8 teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs. The top 4 seeded teams are the three division winners and the best division runner-up all ranked on the basis of their standings. The bottom 4 seeded teams are seeded by basis of their standings. All series are in a best-of-seven format with the Games 1–2, 5 and 7 on the home court of the team with the better record (not necessarily higher seed). So if Houston has a better record than Denver, but Denver is No.1 in their division they are seeded higher than us - #3 and Houston #4 for example. As for homecourt advantage, you may be right. If the #3 has a worse record than the #6 then #6 may retain home court advantage in the first round. Mute point for #4 & #5 since both are based on best record.
you're right. i messed up with the div. champ rule. but that rule, imo, with the way it is, doesn't make a lot of sense. it's not baseball or football. we play the mavs (a div. opponent) just as many times as we do the thunder (non-div.), so what justifies that a division leader has to be in the top 3? what do the divisions do in bball? why can't it be just 2 conferences?
