That'd be a very suspect move. It'd completely change the "basketball culture" that has started this year with the MDA system. Ryno is the stretch 4 that is important to that. Nevermind the fact that Drummon gets paid a boatload of money for a number of years and seems to not be "all-in" mentally. And, btw, has been shown to NOT be quite so good as a defensive man in the middle as he might seem. The Pistons defense struggles with him. And finally, to top it all off, with Capela going back you're still "short" on bigs. Capela clearly isn't the rebounder that Drummond is - very few if any players in the league are. But he is otherwise very similar to Drummond on a per 100 possession basis. Sure, he doesn't play as much as Drummond, but that's fine, imo. You need some variety in your bigs at times. Drummond is Dwight light in the making, imo. There are articles/blogs that note he also can disrupt offensive flow and try dumb ass post ups way too often, for example. I'd rather have Tyson Chandler... which says something... and you can get Tyson for peanuts, relatively speaking. I don't see DM getting either, though. Neither move the needle so much that they're the difference between advancing to the Finals or not.
Realistically as fans we need to know what our team's limits are. I'm just saying if the Rockets don't make the necessary moves at the deadline today they might not make it to the WCF. Right now our weakness is defending against bigs such as Gobert, Cousins, Davis, Gasol, Aldridge, etc. Alluding to my previous post in this thread we need a defensive minded PF/C that can slow, not stop the opposing team's bigs and a nice 3+D backup would be nice to limit Ariza's ridiculous minutes. (He's like 33 give him some more rest) I can't see this team going potentially against Memphis or Utah in a 7 game series. It'd almost be like that Portland series with Aldridge. I admit that they haven't blown us out, but they do give us a lot of trouble in the paint. Guys like Tyson Chandler and Kyle O'Quinn don't make a huge difference in terms of moving the needle, but they do help with the Rocket's main weakness. All in all, the Rockets just need a PF/C that won't get destroyed against marquee big men and a serviceable wing player to help Old Man Trevor get some much need rest for the playoffs.
You and me both. Everyone should hate that team Unless you live in the bay area. They are evil empire and the face of shitty NBA parity. Also kevin durant was a coward to leave a perennial contender to join a 73 win team
I think it's best to just enjoy the season. The Rockets with James Harden being the only superstar are not going to win it all with Nerlens Noel or Bogut, Tyson Chandler etc. at center. Harden needs more help than that to beat the Warriors and the Spurs, hell we even struggle to beat OKC, lol. I wouldn't even be thinking or stressing about the playoffs this year just be happy that this season is 100 times better than last. We're not winning anything until another superstar agrees to come here.
Beverley/Williams Harden/Gordon Ariza/Dekker Anderson/Dekker Capela/Harell/Nene Just enjoy that lineup for now. It is enjoyable. Lots of good players there.
It amazes me that at the beginning of this season, we weren't picked to do better than 7th or 8th seed and mid-40s wins. As far as I'm concerned, we're already at the point of calling this season a success. We might even escape the first round
Could Greg Ostertag be considered a backup C. You take him out, that Utah team probably wouldn't have made it to the final. Taking Luc Longly or Dennis Rodman out, the Bulls wouldn't have won it all. The premise is that we don't have a legit C that can stop an opposing C. We couldn't save our lives against the freaking Heat. That's all.
