If Morey doesn't grab a Center today, then this will be just another above average regular season with no results in the playoffs. No way we go anywhere with toothpick Capella as our "Big".
I think our playoff success really depends on whether or not our shooters are hot going in and remain hot throughout the tournament. Big or no big if we're not making our 3's we won't do any damage in the playoffs.
If the Rockets can't get that Defensive PF/C and another serviceable Wing then we'll be contending for that title next year. There is no way in hell that we can't sign a big and a 3+D player in the offseason. If we keep this core and add pieces in the summer then we should have a really good shot at the championship next year.
I'd be willing to wager that the plan is to find a rim protecting, rebounding big in a trade and then sign a wing off of the buyout market (with Matt Barnes being option #1). Tyson Chandler and Barnes would make the rotation a solid 10 deep.
I disagree. Capella & Nene are more than serviceable for a title. You are overestimating the need of inside defense for this Rockets team. Don´t be a zero defensively (ie. plays from Harden on Shaqtin a Fool last year, and our offense will always give us a chance at winning. Just look at the games we blew 15+ points leads. The effort on D just wasn´t there. A wise man once said: "Work hard guys!"
I've been on board with a Chandler acquisition since they acquired Lou Williams. But the reality is that even with Chandler, the Rockets are still a long shot to get out of the West. Don't get your hopes up, OP.
Can get to the WCF no matter what happens today. Probably can't get past GSW no matter what happens today. So no, not true at all.
So how about you make a tipjar bet that if the Rockets grab a C they will advance to the NBA finals? Sorry but a silly premise deserves a snarky response. What kind of bs is it that everything hinges on a backup C? There are no teams in history whose chance at a ring hinged on a backup f'in C. Whether we win or not depends on all the players, depends on seeding, on luck, on coaching, on James Harden, on our defense, our 3pt shooting, our acquisitions, how our opponents play and about 100 other factors. Everything doesn't depend on whether or not we get a backup C today. And there are no backup C's on the market who we can acquire without giving up a rotation player, who are significantly better than FA centers, who we can sign for another month. We need defense, anywhere. Whether at SF or PF or C, we need defense. We don't live in that archaic NBA where the C is the only person protecting the paint. No one we can acquire is going to change this defense alone.
