I wasn't trying to be all-inclusive, I was just showing a few cases that would break the above logic, and Denver would NOT get the 8th seed. For example, look again at my scenario #2. It can satisfy all of the requirements in your logic above, but Denver does not get the 8th seed, they are eliminated. I could very well be wrong, but that's the conclusion that I came to. Two heads are better than one though, so let me know if I was overlooking something =) Helpful note: Check out the PDF that I linked to in the first post. When looking at 3-team ties, it says "If three or more teams have equivalent records, the first tiebreaker criteria that creates differentiation applies". I take this to mean that if teams A, B and C are tied and A and B are tied in Group Records and C has the worst group record, then team C is eliminated and you start over to differentiate teams A & B.
I'm updating DEN, because it is the preferred opponent for many...especially, me, since I can go to games, then. [UPDATED] Scenarios where Denver gets 8th seed This covers ALL tie-breaker scenarios as well, 2, 3, 4, and 5 team ties. If DEN goes 2-0 with 35 losses it is impossible for Denver to get 8th seed Here's why MIN will have 36 losses DEN wins all tiebreakers at 35 losses One of SAS or NOLA *must* have 35 losses, due to playing each other If DEN goes 0-2 with 37 losses it is nearly impossible for Denver to make the playoffs MIN at worse can tie, and they win tiebreaker One (but only one) of OKC, SAS or NOLA must go 0-3 (note: SAS and NOLA play each other for a guaranteed win) If DEN goes 1-1 for 36 losses this is best probability for Denver to get 8th seed MIN wins 36-loss tiebreaker, so unless MIN losses to MEM* One (but only one of the following must happen): OKC and NOLA 1-2, or anyone of OKC/NOLA/SAS/UTA goes 0-3. * If MIN loses 37 games, NONE of the following can happen: OKC, SAS and NOLA 1-2, or anyone of OKC/NOLA/SAS/UTA going 0-3.
Easiest/shortest way for me to keep track: DEN beats LAC DONE! HOU beats OKC MIA beats OKC MIN beats MEM DEN beats POR (or DEN beats MIN) = OKC is eliminated if NOP and SAS don't lose out
Look, obviously I think we beat Oklahoma City in a series. That doesn't change the fact that the easier road is probably letting them mess around with golden state. I want us matched up with Denver in the first round and then either Minnesota or New Orleans in the second round.
Great, I agree. See my last post with the Updated Denver 1-1 (36 loss) scenario. I just took SAS out of 1-2 scenarios involving MIN going 2-1 as well. I need to double check 4 team ties with MIN and SAS, I guess.
If this holds true, looks like us vs. Pelicans and then vs. Jazz in round 2. But Warriors will face the Thunder and then Portland in round 2. Lmao, what a difference that 1 seed makes! It's now or never for us, wow!
Not a bad loss for the Rockets. Only helps keep OKC from the 8th seed. Please give them 7th basketball gods.
Very disappointed in the Rockets not taking care of OKC. Now that OKC is virtually guaranteed a playoff spot, this thread is no longer exciting. Silver lining is the Rockets looked stung tonight and they probably needed that feeling again before the playoffs started.

ok so we just need NO, OKC, SA to win all remaining games that case we'll end up facing MIN or DEN..not bad if that happens( wait, nevermind, NO vs SA on wednesday..)
First round: Rockets vs Thunder If Thunder road game lose to Heat, beat Grizz one of Wolves or Nuggets out
Naw, OKC/GS would be one of the most exciting 1st round matchups in...forever. That's what I'm pulling for.
