Bill Simmons: "Celts' sloppiness/lethargy, Wade's brilliance + Pierce's ejection overshadowed an epic tail-between-the-legs game from Bosh."

Even if Pierce did say that you don't blow call a double tech in that situation. Just get in between them.

Everyone knows Pierce and Wade are not throwing any punches.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I hated LBJ just like everybody else, but now that the dust has settled I have gone right back to appreciating how damn good he really is. I mean when I see someone that talented its hard to root against them.

I also agree that Bosh is not good enough to be qualified as part of the "Big Three."

I hope that technical earlier isn't a precursor of the officiating for the remainder of the series. No, that wasn't a "head butt". Getting up in someones face in heated competition does not make for a head butt. That double T was a wussy call.

Let the men play. No harm, no foul. It's playoff time!

Good win for the Heat. Their offense still looks like crap but it was good enough to get the job done. Should be an interesting series.

P.S. Pierce getting PO'd at the contact from James Jones was idiotic. He should have known better.

It's too easy to pick on Bosh. He actually played OK -- 12 rebounds and the only player on both team with double digit rebounding.

How about James Jones stepping up? That's a great sign for Miami. They need their role players to play well.

Plus, it happened too soon after the face-butt- I don't think Wade or LeBron would do something like that, anyway- Pierce is a great player, but he ain't always the sharpest tool in the shed, either.

See that's where I disagree. I think no matter who it is you call a tech if its worthy of a tech. I just want the game to always be called consistently and with no favoritism. I don't care if Wade/Kobe/LBJ had gotten a tech earlier in the game...if they did something to warrant a second tech then they deserve to be thrown out.

Now I'm not stupid enough to believe that the refs would've called that consistently if it was another superstar. That's the main problem I have with the refs. The stupid favoritism.

After watching the replay again Pierce set a good pick and Wade walked over to him. So Wade provoked him. Call a tech on Wade and move on.

I think this is way overstated. Two of the Celts wins were during Miami's 9-8 start to the season, which makes them basically meaningless. The teams split the final two games, including Miami's blowout late in the season. That is more indicative of what to expect for this series.

The Heat needed game one more than Boston because it was on their home court. They have held serve.

See my problem is the tech on Pierce wasn't tech worthy. I have never agreed with the double tech thing. To me you figure out who started it and give that guy a tech. Wade provoked Pierce which was smart because hey if a double tech is given Wade knows he will still play and Pierce will be out.

I really think there are more "Big 2s" in NBA history, anyway. Bird and McHale (sorry, can't put Parish in there, the others were much better than him, although he was very good), Magic and Kareem (same for Worthy- electrifying at times, but not in the same category), Thomas and Dumars, Dream and Drex, Duncan and Robinson, etc.

We take players like LeBron and Wade, and even Pierce somewhat, for granted. LeBron definitely deserved better than that lineup in Cleveland.

The Heat were better, but the refs peed on themselves today.

Paul Pierce's ejection illustrates why I don't mind double-technical fouls. What double-Ts do is put both players on notice they have no remaining slack. Unfortunately, the 2nd T on Pierce was nonsense.

But the referee at first got between them, then Pierce said something, and THEN the ref ejected him. I'd be curious to know exactly what he could have said that warranted the ejection, because it appears the ejection was based on Pierce's comment.

exactly. pierce wasn't going to get a technical initially but he kept mouthing and i assume he said something really bad that deserved the tech.

the game was over by then anyways if you have been watching the entire game. boston was overmatched in game 1

I guess Simmons didn't pay any attention to KG, who was arguably worse.

Yea but it looked like he said something to Wade not the ref.

Fair enough. I agree Wade did instigate it and it was a smart play, but read dandorotik's comment on to why Pierce was given the tech.
