How about if they play a clean version of this song? He mentions Yao Ming near the end of the song...

Admins: Please excuse the use of profanity (only two words total) at the beginning of the song.

    (real)

    :D

okay, maybe this isn't for yao, but hey, stevie and cat would like it :D

Yeah!!! A clean version would be great.

But you know that it wouldn't get played in the Compaq Center.
It's too rough, and not politically correct for the conservative crowd.

I love chances song no matter what some of you fools think. Yeah, that's right....you're fools if you don't like it. Sure i wouldn't "pay" to hear it...but i think it's catchy, fun, and pretty damn awesome that a cc.netter put it together. Good job Chance!!!

I appreciate everyone coming to my defense over the song. But if David thinks its corny he is entitled to his opinion and I am sure there are people that agree with it. And I think it's healthy for people to express themselves in this forum. It's also good for me to read the comments of people that think I suck.

When I chose to do the Ming Song I went with something that worked. Can a BILLION soccer fans possibly be wrong? Ok, they are wrong about soccer being a good spectator sport. But the OLE song that was the inspiration for this song is very addicitive and quite cool. Look through the threads about this song (there are a crapload of them) I stated very plainly that this song was meant to be yelled by fans in a stadium. And it will.

Oh and about ESPN and FoxNet making fun of it. You are dead wrong. Everything that Yao Ming touches turns to gold as far as the media and their thirst for the asian and asian-american dollar is concerned. They will be running with this as soon as I let them. They made fun of the Houston Oilers Fight Song because it sucked. My Yao does not suck. Now if you want to hear something by me that is corny Click Here. If you want a song that is embarrassing (at least if you are the one that remade it) Click here.

My brother in law lives in LA...has no ties to Houston (other than his sister living here)...and isn't even a sports fan. Yet when I talk to him I always bring up the Rockets. When I do he ALWAYS sings "Yao Ming Yao Ming Yao Ming Yao Ming".

The point is that this song has gotten people who don't even care about sports, much less the Rockets, excited about Yao Ming. That is good stuff.

I've made my case. You all can make up your own minds.

    Here's a situation -

I'm walking around doing anything any regular person would do AND THEN....

I start singing in a very low key manner almost to myself...

    "Yao Ming, YaoMingYaoMingYaoMing....Yao..Ming...Yao Ming!"

I start laughing because I can't believe that thing has stuck in my head!! :D I like the song - very, VERY catchy!!

I just wish it would let some chicks enter my mind every now and then. I mean, here comes Elizabeth Hurley and THEN..."Yao Ming, YaoMingYaoMingYaoMing....Yao..Ming...Yao Ming!"

    Thanks Chance!!! :D

For what it's worth, we love it over here at the Rockets. I'll admit, there are some in our office who run away whenever it gets played because they know if they stay it will be stuck in their heads for the rest of the day. But if we weren't fans of it, it wouldn't be used in our games.

We probably won't use it as heavily over the rest of the season as we did during the pre-season -- we used it in those games as part of our promotion for the Yao Ming growth chart we're going to be giving away opening night. But we'll pick our spots.

I think Chance did a great job, personally. I love this kind of stuff when it comes from fans.

Chance, your song's gotta be pretty good to be recognized and then defended by this guy. Man, it must feel pretty cool to work hard on the song and then hear it used at the games. BTW did you have intentions for this to happen?

Ohhh..bad call..The people I was siyying by at the game Thursday were all over the song. I didn't let them know I did it, I just enjoyed the comments. One of them said, "DAMN! I hate this song! I can't stop thinking about it." And his buddy says, "That's why they made it. So you'd get Yao Ming stuck in your head and want to buy stuff." I thought that was HILARIOUS! These guys actually thought that there was some conspiracy out there to brainwash them into buying stuff and that this was part of it. (I know that the brainwashing effort is out there but this is not a part of it.) And I loved how they mentioned the ever-present 'they'!

I think it should be played more.

It is already on the verge of taking over the stadium. People want something with which to sing . They want something of which they can be a part. And they identify with this song. Yeah, it gets a little repetitive, but so what. Playing it at two preseason games and then just sporatically throughout the season is not the right call. It should be disected. Everytime Yao Ming goes to the line it should play one round of Yao Ming Yao Ming Yao Ming Yao Ming.

    More to follow...

    Very funny.:D

My favorite is song is Air Bull, but the Yao Ming song sure sticks with you.

Hey Chance, now that I've listened twice to the song you said was embarassing, I like it - it's going into my mp3 collection and will be burnt. Granted, I have no idea what it was remade from...

Could you post the lyrics if you have them hanging around?

This song should have never been a country song. It should have been a rock/alt. song from the get-go!

    Here's the wurdz:

Well I met her out at Murphy's restaurant
She said she was fresh from the farm
And I remember thinkin' for a country girl
That she went pretty well armed
We sat there talkin' by the lobster tank
I ordered her a slow gin fizz
And when them chicken fried steaks arrived
She said I like living like this

So I made her the queen of my double wide trailer
With the polyester curtains and the redwood deck
Times she's run off and I've got to trail her
Dang her black heart and her pretty red neck

Well a few nights later I run into her
With some stranger on a park bench
She said he rebuilds engines and his name is Earl
He's the Charlie Daniels of the torque wrench
I whispered honey let's just go on home
And have some onion rings and watch TV
And as I walked her to the truck
Earl was cryin' don't you leave me
    I told him

This is the queen of my double wide trailer
With the polyester curtains and the redwood deck
Sometimes shes runs and I've got to trail her
Dang her black heart and her pretty red neck

    Chance,

Just a word of advice from a musician who's been doing this for almost 20 years. There are ALWAYS critics and you will ALWAYS have to suffer rejection. The music business, in whatever form it takes, is a brutal b****. Always has been and probably always will be.

Try to remember that music is a matter of opinion. Just because everyone likes or dislikes something doesn't make it great or horrible. It just is as B-Ball Freak said and he should know given his long history in the business like myself.

I think you are taking this WAY too personally. It is JUST A SONG, man. It isn't the end of the world. It isn't the cure for cancer. It is a sports-themed, novelty song. You can't expect the world is going to universally love it.

If I had a dollar for every rejection letter I got from a record company or for every criticism I took for music, I wouldn't need to worry about record labels. I'd OWN ONE!

I think your song is catchy. I like it except when I wake up and it's stuck in my freakin' head. Then, I just want to kill you. :D

But, honestly, there is a reason why most artists don't engage in debates over criticism of their music...why most of them never even look at it in the first place.

There is one positive. You're sounding more and more like a tempermental artist. Welcome to the club! :)

    Chance,
Count me as one of the 5,000 that loved the Yao Ming song. You have real talent. I also wanted to say that I loved the Taco Bell song, probably because I can identify with it. ;)

I thought the song was good and was neat while we were waiting for Ming to arrive. My only complaint about it is, well, its a bit like row row your boat but with fewer words. Generally the Yao Ming song has 2 words. You could use nearly any two words with that mix. I mean even 'Happy Birthday to you' has 4 words and is short. Please don't take my critique the wrong way.

Uh, you must have not been in the Astrodome in the 80's. Because
thousands of fans sang the Houston Oiler song.

You say it sucked? Well, the writer of that song would have words with
    you.

Now you know what being on the side of the critic is like. It goes both ways.

Miami still uses the music from the Oilers song to this day for their fight song.
