I oganized and participated in the largest game of H.O.R.S.E. ever recorded. It's in the Guinness Book of World Records.

What does that make me? Can I get some approval?

OK, kidding. That H.O.R.S.E. game never happened.

played hs, college, and up to semi pro. was offered contract to play ball in mexico but - as a 19 year old that was engaged to a stripper would do - i turned it down. stupid.

got as far as semi pro. played in league with lloyd daniels, dominique wilkins, chris todd (local SA legend), dembo.

stopped playing shortly after finding out that i have spina bifida occulta.

    Here's my detective work:

This guy joined the board in 2003; claims to be an insider; didn't post much until recently, i.e. after JVG was fired, lashing out at the former GM every chance he gets.

    Hmm... someone related to JVG?

Interesting thread I haven't bothered jumping into until now. Those saying denniscd's being an ass may have a point - then again, he may have a right to be an ass, too.

Let's face the facts - many of the opinions we as fans state on here are just opinions, and in many cases not totally based upon any factual evidence. For the most part, when we talk basketball, we analyze the output and search for the input that caused it. For example, we don't see who works with Yao, we don't see the politics behind the scenes, we can't experience how hard a coach or his assistants do or don't work with a player, we don't know that a player truly hates a coach, and we don't know a coach won't play a player because he just sucks and not because he hates him, etc.

Yet we're willing to make the leap and outspokenly say things such as coaches didn't work with players or their work didn't result in the improvement of the player, we say that a coach isn't appreciated by his players and he may actually be hated by them behind the scenes, we say coaches won't give players PT because they have it in for players, etc.

Ultimately for the fans, unless a ring is won, there's always a way to be better. Meaning in some way, the organization failed. So we start pointing fingers - often in the dark - as to what caused what we believe to be a failure. We then move on to how those failures should be remedied.

A lot of what we say is based upon supposition without any direct access to what's going on behind the scenes. Is it wrong? No, it's part of being a fan and gives us something to do while we watch, I guess. Yet, if you were in the organization how would you feel reading and seeing the same stuff over and over knowing (or at least believing) it wasn't true. Of course you can't come on here and say "I'm so and so, and that is a flat out lie!" On the contratry, you may not be able to defend yourself or your opinion, so you just sit back and watch the circus thinking "this is insane". Eventually you probably would a) ignore the noise, b) laugh at the nutty comments, cheer the insightful ones or c) just blow up once you'd gotten fed up with it.

The fact is there are people beyond the players that work for the Rockets or in basketball organizations that may be affected by the often-uninformed comments we make. You can say it's our right as fans to believe what we believe, but can you say it's not someone else's right to say "you don't have the facts because you really don't know what's going on behind the scenes"? At that point who the hell are we to rip into what someone who possibly is an insider tells us to be factual?

As an example, I've always loved CD from what I've seen and read of him, and quite frankly I don't know whether to believe what denniscd says about the man or not. Maybe he has an agenda or has had some bad blood with CD. I don't know, but I do know he knows far more about what goes on in that Rockets organization than I do. So when he comes on here and says something isn't as it seems, I have to at least listen and not dismiss it.

Oh, and to answer the question : I played a lot of basketball as a kid in the Mo. City area, but gave it up after repeatedly hurting my back. No coaching experience, but read my sig... I also fully admit I'm ignorant of a lot of things basketball, but I've been a fan of the Rockets since 1979 or so.

I agree with almost everything you said. Dr......except the part about him having a right to be an A$$.

How does being an A$$ help in any way shape or form?

I didn't say it did. I said I can understand why he may act like one after having read some of the stuff in here and finally blew his lid. It's human nature. Like the old Chris Rock skit about OJ.... "I'm not saying I condone it, but I understand..."

I don't get why someone would go this far to insult a true Rockets legend, someone that has put this organization ahead his family and did everthing he could to make it better(even when some jerks did not understand the reason behind a certain decision).

I have known CD for almost 30 years and I tell you one thing,he could care less about so called "spot light",hell Les wanted him to coach the team and it was CD that came to Rudy and asked (and he said please if I can recall right)him to take the job and Rudy did just that, he was behind Rudy all the way to make sure he succeds.CD was one of the big reasons we won the 94 championship(along with Dream,Les and Rudy),yea a REAL team work.

I don't know who you are and how old you are but based on your posts here I tell you you have NO Idea what you are talking about, coaching??? and even insulting people on this forum just because YOU think they don't know? just on top of my head I can name some people on this site that maybe never played any real game but would out coach you every day of the week and twice on sunday (nbc game). Here , Dadakota, Clutch ,heypartner, thacabbage,Dr of Dunk ,hell even sam fisher might give you a bang for the buck.

If you don't believe me open a thread about real basketball talk and lets see, maybe that would put an end to this garbage!(unlike you I won't have as much time to post but will try)

And now if you know anything about NBA coaching I will ask you a simple question,I really look forward to your answer. That will tell me if you have any idea at all.

You have player X shooting 80% from behind the arc(in daily work out that is),that very same player shoots 35% 3's in real game time, why is that? (assume defense is not a real factor here).

So Mr. coach I am waiting.

PS: Being a coach means being a teacher, model etc. I don't see any of that in you and also,I am not an insider but what I said are facts.Call dream or someone you know(if) and you will find out!!!

Actually, samfisher charges TWO bucks for a bang. ;)

    Great post otherwise!

Someone has a friend who works for the Rockets, so that makes him a basketball genius? PUH-LEEZE. I once had a friend who cleaned Billy Gibbons' swimming pool -- that doesn't make me an expert on guitar playing.

    No offense man...

But since when we need to be a basketball coach or Phil Jackson to see the fact that Michael Jordan is better than Rafer Alston? And since when we need to be a basketball professional to understand Eric Dampier isn't the No.2 center in the league?..
