McGrady is soft. He settles for jumpers far too often in an era catered for easy foul calls and defensive restrictions. He has completely given up on offensive rebounding in favor of transition defense. Maybe its the back problem. Still soft though. Rudy was a players coach in the sense that players enjoyed playing for him, they respected him, and it was rare that he butted heads with his personnel. One of the rare coaching types than can manage multiple big ego stars.
Thats a funny comment Given up Offensive rebounding in favor of transition defence. Is it just me that thinks thats a smart choice for the no 1 defence team in the league with only two people capable of playing transition D (T-mac and Battier..........)
Its not necessarily T-Mac being smart in my eyes. It was JVG being smart, knowing his best player has back problems and our team identity was defense. Yes it was smart. But in the playoffs against the Jazz I was hoping to see McGrady throw caution to the wind and attack the glass. Defense was not the problem that series. We needed rebounding, we needed baskets, we needed better than 39% from the field... But this is an argument for another thread. Of which there are dozens.
Stats don't lie, neither does the tv. There's something called comparing how players play; for example: if kobe drives and scores and tries in the 4th to carry his team even without success and tmac settles for jumpers and disappears in the 4th. We have every right to call him soft. You don't need to be a rocket scientist/super player/super athlete to know that. If you watched the nba all your life, it's pretty obvious that you would have good analysis. denniscd you are just one of those people who can't accept criticism or people who have different opinions than you. It will always exist, so you better live with that or i really don't know what you're doing in a basketball forum where 'basketball fans' meet. lol
sorry but am I the only one who doesnt see this as being Rockets related material. Hangout stuff I would of thought.
who cares where it is...it relates to how well you see the game...we all want former players as coaches...well i give more credit to former players and coaches as fans...as for me, i played at trinity in sa
Thomas & Ainge are 2 very good NBA players who can't coach or GM worth a diddly. Is any wonder that Kobe would consider being traded to either NY or Boston?! Anyway back on topic. I was a 5-10 F/C starter on my country grade school team in Indiana. I moved to a city(800 population) school where their F/C's were all 5-10 to 6-0 during 8th grade. As a freshman, I was moved to G due to an influx of tall(namely a 6-4 C) from surrounding grade schools. I became a 5-10 G that couldn't shoot away from the basket or dribble with a defender within 3 feet of him. End of career!! Still have my opinions though!!!
I played basketball in public school from 8 to 12th grade-only started one year in a weak program in a school that was football oriented. I never coached. I have been a Rockets fan since 1984 and a season ticket holder since '99. I am a Rockets fan Go Rockets!!!!!
not over my head...just more extensive experience which you want to dismiss because you just dont have the experiences. rocket river agrees because he too has no experiences. its my observation that we all want former players as our coaches yet you dont see the holes in your observations because you never played nor coached. just something to think about before you become critical of people who do this for a living...thats all.
So JVG should not have been an NBA coach then because he didn't have the experience of playing in the NBA. Got it, thanks ! DD
played as long as i can remember. High school varsity as sophmore but had reoccurring stress fractures that just never allowed me to get into a flow...high impact drills for kids still growing is not a good idea had a chance to play at a small college in mississippi but i decided to go to a big school and not play(although i think i was better than that one walk on at the end of the bench)...sometimes i regret that playing for the small school
no jvg had college coaching experience, pro coaching experience etc...that is what the difference is. even dadakota can pick up that difference...by the way dadakota what is your level of playing and coaching experience...
My experience coaching, playing, reffing...etc......is none of your business, but it is more than 20 years. But the beauty of the internet is that people can make stuff up to give themselves a virtual reach-around. Which is the point of this thread. Creative writing was always fun in college, where we learned to actually capitalize the first letter of our sentences, not something that Trinity college emphasized in their basketball program I see. . So, make up what you want, but it doesn't add a shred of credibilty here, there are plenty of people that have played high level basketball that don't understand a thing about the game, ala Stromile Swift, while there are just as many that never played a lick outside of intramurals or pickup games that understand the intimate details of the game itself. I mean we are talking about basketball here, not Rockets science. Good players do not necessarily make good coaches, and vice versa. DD
