Well the Rockets also have trade history with the Grizzlies. Perhaps the 2nd trade (involving MoT and TMo) is with Memphis to get Battier. From what I've read Memphis loves Butler and Dunleavy and since they both play the small forward position, Battier becomes expendable. I think he fits the description of "right below all-star level". I still have no clue on who the all-star power forward is though.
Gator, Elvin Hayes, Ralph Sampson, Otis Thorpe and Charles Barkley all logged quite a bit of time at the PF spot. Of Course Elvin Hayes and Ralph Sampson also logged quite a bit of time at the center spot. All for of those were all stars and at least three had hall of fame talent and the 4th (Otis Thorpe) had boarderline hall of fame talent. No one that we could aquire from the NBA today would be a significant improvement over any of those four if in fact they would be any improvement at all.
crash5179 - I don't disagree with you at all. My point all along has been that the PF ROCKET!!! is suggesting is not currently All Star material but has the potential to be. I just think it's short-sighted to make the assumption that it's a player who is right now better than the list you have given. IMO, 8 & 12 + MoT does not warrant a current All Star. And the Rocks had Curry high on their list last year. I can't see a current All Star PF without the inclusion of Steve. And I do not see any hints to that effect. I'm not proposing any of this but just trying to be a good detective.
Man, and for the first time I was actually getting excited about a possible trade. If that's all he was referring to, then I would much rather take a chance on a 7-5 center who has the potential to be an All-Star over a power forward who has the potential to be an All-Star. He was saying the Rockets would be set for 10 years! For him to truthfully say that, he could not be referring to guys like Kwame Brown or Eddy Curry. And this still makes me wonder about Griffin. If the Rockets would be set for ten years at the 1,2,3,and 4, eventhough he says they love Eddie, wouldn't that pretty much make him a perennial bench player until he leaves to go to another team where he can start?
Can someone tell me why Portland and Sheed are out of the picture because I think he would fit the bill unless we manage to get Brand on this team.
Wouldn't Curry be considered a center? He's around 7 feet and 290 pounds. I don't know if he's mobile enough to play the 4. If we were to trade for him I would think he would play the 5, while Griffen plays the 4.
Rocketbox, To my knowledge, ROCKET!!! never said anything about Portland being out of the picture. Another poster, whom I can't remember right now, said he had been in contact with ROCKTET!!! and that he was told Portland was not happening. I also think Wallace fits the bill, but so do a few other guys. This is driving me crazy.
He said it here: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?threadid=34551 "Not under any circumstances will we deal with the Blazers (team chem./Pip issues)."
Now, the best I can come up with is Shareef-Abdur Rahim, Elton Brand, or Kevin Garnett. The Hawks were expecting to improve this season, but they really didn't. I just can't see any other <b>TRUE</b> All-Star-Caliber power forwards that could possibly be on the trading block that haven't already been dismissed by ROCKET!!! Saying Brand is on the trading block seems ridiculous, but you never know what the Clippers might do. I thought Garnett was pretty much impossible based on his salary, but maybe he can somehow be had. However, Shareef seems like the most likely candidate to me. The Hawks still suck with him and he's in the eastern conference, so that's who I'm going with until something else comes along and changes my mind. Don't the Rockets have a trade history with the Hawks?
I stand corrected. The Blazers are out. That only increases my suspicion that Brand is the guy. But why? Why would LAC be that stupid?
I can't get the link because the search function is disabled, but a month or two ago Clutch gave us an update with the phrase "Don't rule out Kwame Brown in a Rockets uniform" as something he'd been hearing. Just food for thought...
As others have pointed out, the leak of personal desires by Cat (and Francis earlier in the week), lead one to believe that Houston is putting the pressure or the mental game on Chicago. Krause, this tiny, fat, ball of a man, always wants to be the center of attention on draft day. He is always trying to find ways of redeeming himself to the critics that found him idiotic for breaking up a dynasty prematurely. Just look at his track record over the past four years; 1) He drafts the Co-Rookie of the Year (a solid young all-star) 2) Feeling burned that Miles was taken he then drafts Fizer (a duplication of Brand) 3) Last season, Krause didn’t want to just draft one High School PF/C he had to draft both…so he sends his Rookie of the Year packing. 4) Now that Houston his thinking Odom is worthy of the #1 pick, who knows what he’ll do. Somehow, I think Houston is going to come out of this with Elton Brand at the power forward position and draft a potential all-star in Caron Butler. Plus get rid of some of the fat. Steve Francis/ Moochie Norris Cuttino Mobley/ Caron Butler/ Oscar Torres? Caron Butler/ EG Elton Brand/ EG Kelvin Cato I don’t know who or where the other 4 to 6 players will come from to fill up our roster, but this is a solid core. I think we’ll probably look for a versatile 4/5 to back up Cato (Swift or an older veteran)
Ming is going to be the allstar power forward. We will play Cato at the 5, and Ming at the 4, where he can shoot jumpers from the top of the key. Rocket!!!'s trade will net us a small forward for next to nothing, based upon the misinformation that has been spread. KT and MoT will be out in the cold or traded because Ming will be our power forward for the next 10 years.
not really. I believe he primarily played the 3 in Vancouver, be he played the 4 in Atlanta. He's strong enough to play power forward and he has a good post game.
Maybe its Brand and Odom........From the Clips site, a interview with Brand states he wants to continue to play with Odom because he likes his game etc......, of course he thinks the Clipps could be in the finals in 5 yrs or so if they kept the team together.......heres the link to the Clippers forum.......also they were talking about they wouldn't want to gine up Kandi for the number one pick................ http://basketball.fanhome.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?forumid=83
I think Mo T. would make a good starting PF,(assuming he "lays aside the weight " There were MANY games in 2000 2001, that was the only one scoring in the opening minutes of the game, and he shot a good % too, So yall talk amongst yourselves. THANK YOU
What the?!?!?!? I have a twin brother in the CIA??? Go get yer own screen name man......As for this info......I think the super power forward is SHeeed Wallace. That deal with Bonzi and Wallace sounded good to me and I think they might be willing to pull the trigger......yes??
<i>aelliott - Aren't the Clipps still about $12m under the cap even w/o renouncing Kandi? Our amigo ROCKET!!! has left clues in another thread. Here's the quote: "Add one player, ship out three, exchange some picks and you have the trade on the table. Subsequent trade...refer to Yoda quote. Exists, but not in stone. Just the wrong team. " </i> Gater, This whole thread seems to be based on the idea that the Clipper's have a ton of cap space. According to my calculation, that isn't true. I did it as a quick calculation, so it might not be exact, but it should be close. Here's what I came up with: Clipper's 2002 payroll: $33,849,932 2002 NBA Salary Cap: $42,500,000 Clips cap space during 2002 season : $42,500,000 - $33,849,932 = $8,650,068 Say the Clips renounce all free agents except Kandi, that frees up another $1.5 of cap space for $8,650,068 + $1.5M = $10,150,068M of cap space. Since Kandi is a FA, we need to calculate his cap hold amount. Kandi made $4.662M last year. As a free agent coming off of a rookie scale deal, he counts at 250% of his salary against the cap until he's resigned or renounced. So, his cap hit is now $11,656,180. That's means he counts an additional $6,993,708 more against the cap than he did before. That reduces the cap space to $3,156,360. Now if we're shipping Rice, Collier and KT, then we're sending LA $11,026,960 in salary. For the deal to be legal, LA either has to send out between 85% and 115% of that amount or be able to make up the difference in cap space. So, the minimum they have to send back is (85% of what we send - their cap space). That works out to ($11,026,960 *.85) - $3,156,360 = $9,372,916 - $3,156,360 = $6,216,556 So, once they use up all of their available cap space, they must still send us back $6,215,556 in salary. The assumption is that they are sending Odom ($2,812,320) and Maggette ($1,448,400) That's a total of $4,260,720. So, deduct that from the $6,216,556 that they have to send and it means that the third contract must be for at least $1,955,836. The only players they have available to trade that make that much money are Rooks, Piatkowski, Miles and Brand. ROCKET!! said that the Odom + Magette deal was close, but the Rockets wanted one more player. Well, it's pretty safe to assume Rooks and Piatkowski aren't deal breakers, the Clips would gladly have thrown those guys in to get the deal to happen and the Rocket's wouldn't refuse the deal unless either of those guys were include. That leaves Brand and Miles. Given the choice of those two, I'd have to think that it was Miles. Do you see where I'm coming from? Everybody is assuming that the Clips have $10M in cap space, but they really only have $3.1M, unless they renounce Olowokandi. This is the same situation that the Rockets were in with Barkley back in '99. Our salaries were about $14M under the cap, but Barkley's cap hold ate up almost all of that, so unless we renounce him, we couldn't sign Pippen. We couldn't sign Barkley first either, because we'd have to use up our available cap space to do it and there wouldn't be enough left to sign Pippen. Our ultimate solution, turned out for Barkley to sign a 1 yr $1M deal. Once he was signed, his cap hit went away and we were able to use our available cap space to swing the Pippen sign and trade. I don't think Olowokandi would be as receptive to that type of deal.
