I just think that for the kind of money they produce for the school, they deserve at least minimal compensation.

My problem is that the NCAA will become like
Baseball. . . .. Bigger money better players
[not saying it's not like that now . .on
    the hush hush]
A school like Bushwacker College in
    Nowhere falls
will blow their whole budget on one season
win it all . . .the advert from a NCAA champ
would be enough to make them major
    [this is IMO a stretch]

but I LIKE folx leaving early
I mean the NCAA tourney nowadays is
    no longer a lock
how many times can duke, N Carolina
    etc suppose to win it?
I like seeing the Gonzagas, St bonneventures
    actually have a somewhat chance

    1. If you pay the men you will pay the women. Title 9 says so.
    2. If you pay basketball the football team should be paid to. I'm not sure of the numbers but I would guess the football teams bring in more revenue than the basketball teams.
    3. If you pay 60 football players you will have to pay 60 more female athletes.
    4. Where will each D1 school get their money. Obviously a bigger school like Ohio State which draws 95,000 for each football game will have more money than, for example Texas Tech.
    5. The TV dollars and other profits usually goes to supporting other sports (which I think is a good thing) and to renovate facilities. Within the last 3 years Ohio State has built a new basketball arena, a new baseball stdium and are in the middle of renovating the football stadium.
    6. Go you compensate a starter more than a scrub. How about a teams star?
    7. Personally, I don't think these guys need to be paid. Bottom line is they are getting a free education.
If an NBA team wants to draft these guys that is great. Keep in mind that most 18 year olds aren't ready to play yet and when they may become FAs after their 4th year that they could walk to any opther team. There are Sophmores and JUniors in college who are ready for the NBA (and maybe even some Freshman) andf that is great for them. Let them go. My point is it is more of a risk in drafting a HS player or a Freshamn who may need 3-4 years of maturing, who then can walk to any team they may like.
Also I don't care if the college are making money because of these guys. THat is the story of AMerica. If your employer is not making money on your work then you will get fired.

If you have a calling in life, then seize it. Sure, a college education is something that no one can take away, but it's not for everybody, so they shouldn't waste their time. If they fail, then they have created their own problems. If you are really good enough to skip college (and all the fun of it), and are prepared to enter a professional world overnight, then by all means, do what suits you best.
