Dude, you do know you forgot Moses Malone who is on our Rafters as a retired number. And you do know Sampson did not play Center...right. How can you do a thread like this about Houston, the best Center team in history, and get that position so wrong.
you don't need to be old, just look at the accomplishments, they speak for themselves. One of them has his jersey retired for 2 nba teams. the other has his jerseys on the clearance rack for several teams.
Put Hakeem at 4 and Mac at 1 and you have Deke, Hakeem, Artest, Clyde, T-Mac. That's a helluva team out there.
Sampson was a center his rookie year, then became a 7'4" power forward in his second year when we drafted (H)Akeem Olajuwon. Back then Hakeem's game was all inside, and all based on power, so Sampson moved out towards the perimeter.
Center: Dream - Moses - Yao - Deke - Kevin Willis - Larry Smith Power Forward: Big E - Sampson - Thorpe - Barkley Small Forward: Rick Berry(if your talking about prime years he was the best) - TMac - Rudy T - Scooters Brother Shooting Guard: Clyde - Calvin Murphy - World B. Free - Kevin Martin - Mad Max Point Guard: John Lucas - Sam Cassell - Kyle Lowry - Sleepy Floyed - Robert Reed (Yes he played it in 86) - Kenny Smith Intentional Omissions: Steve Francis (he would make my all time overrated team) - Scottie Quitten (Any player that quits on two different franchises only deserves to be on an all disgrace team) On the Border: Cat (I'm a big Cuttino Mobley fan but it just felt wrong putting him on the list if I left off his running buddy)
A lot of us back in the day used to say if the Rockets had drafted Clyde Drexler instead of Rodney McRay the Rockets would have won more championships than the Bulls and I don't even think it would have been close. It still pains me to think of the Rockets passing on Clyde in the draft.
I'd start Malone, Olajuwon, Pippen, Drexler, McGrady and use Marc Jackson, Glen Rice and Barkley a lot off the bench. Jackson being the best pure point guard and Rice being able to space the floor. Barkley would bring the energy. That's the playoff rotation.
Prime McGrady all day!!!.....Yall know damn well he was the best 2 guard in a Rockets uni.....Check your attics, bet its TMac stuff everywhere...
If you were talking about talent in general. Tracy had it all. He could rack up assists, get rebounds, and score. Drexler could score and rebound. That being said if you factor in attitudes, fragility, etc. I'd rather have a healthy Drexler.
you do know the Clyde averaged more assists per game than TMac right? About 6 a game for Clyde and about 4.5 a game for TMac. Clyde had a year where he averaged 8 a game. Clyde was the total package. He also averaged more steals per game than TMac. Not critisizing you just thought that needed to be added.
