I'm seeing Covington and Daniels killing it in D-League, but does anyone know if they'll be called up by the time the Rockets start playoffs? I really want to see these guys succeed and was also curious about why they keep getting sent down. Anyone have updates or ideas about these two?
I wouldn't worry about it, the rockets recently have had a tradition of stashing their prospects for one year in the dleague. It may have something to do with a quote Cuban said how the college game does nothing to improve a basketballers readiness for the nba. My guess is morey also believes this notion and uses the dleague as a tool to get them up to speed with how to play in the nba. Also this team is contending so trusting someone like Troy Daniels or cov or Canaan is a huge risk seeing as though at times we can't even trust people like tjones and dmo
All members of the 15 man roster are dressed for the playoffs. You are just limited during the season, so, yes, they will be with the team and in uniform.
There's only 7 games left for the Vipers. They're needed to clench 1st and make a run in the playoffs. Then, Troy's 3pt wrath shall be unleashed upon all mankind.
Covington, Canaan, and Daniels have sort of ended up being the perfect 12 - 15th man on your teams roster. If the Rockets had major injury issues, I have no doubt that if they needed 10 minutes a game out of these guys, they could get it even though they aren't quite ready for primetime yet. If the Rockets dont have injury issues (luckily nothing serious), they aren't the type of prospects that will pout because they were promised NBA stardom. and all three players could be major contributors next season with the Rockets just like Jones and D-Mo ended up being this year in the big league. If not, no harm no foul... they have very favorable contracts if they need to sign other better players.
I think the D-league experience is overrated, and they don't play much defense at all. I would rather have these guys spend a year on an elite NCAA team like Kentucky, Florida, or Duke. Or play in the Euroleagues for a year to hone their skills.
D League is tougher than NCAA and guys like Terrence Jones actually appear to have developed a lot in the D League compared to how he developed in college. Even Marcus Morris who improved a lot during college, improved more in a year at D League/NBA than he did in three years in college. Euroleague is better than D League, but Euroleague players don't get any time with NBA players in practice during regular season.
