IF this were actually a problem (it isn't - Sengun's defense is not our problem, the idiotic coach and the non-defense by the guards is), the solution would be simple. Get a big rim protector (Wemby or Turner) who can ideally also shoot threes, play them at the 5 on defense, and have Sengun be the weakside shot-blocker (something he is quite good at). On offense, you get all the benefits of his playmaking. On defense, you have someone else being the main rim protector. People totally exaggerate this "problem", usually because they just don't like Sengun, for whatever obscure reason. P.S.: If/when Jabari becomes stronger and if he gets a bit more lift, he could even play that role on defense.
Dang I guess I owe you your money back? Fair context, everyone's defense has to improve on this squad. He surprises us with a block here and there but even Nikola Jokic has to be an active defender or his god-mode offense wouldn't matter. He's only 20 years old, definitely with time to develop left to go. I did say I think the Rockets will see him through at least one extension, that you don't just let a guy like this go unless a team is trading a bonafide star to you. Until he shores up the defense though, I don't think he's solidified. Being the best player right now means nothing (he isn't anyway). Landing one of these gold star prospects, adding 60 million in good NBA players is going to start putting the squeeze on the young Rockets. This team is going to start making leaps over the next few years, a window is going to open and we're not going to be able to say "well wait another 6 years for him to be Jokic". Clutchfans don't seem prepared to crack a few eggs. Rebuild phase 2 begins this offseason. It's not going to be accumulation of talent anymore. It's going to be putting puzzle pieces that fit together and trading the oddballs with value to other teams. Feel free to necrobump these threads in 3-4 years if I don't first. I don't hate Sengun, just his only-fans who can't take fair criticism and project him to be a 3x MVP when he's not even close to that.
Sure, there are creative ways to cover up a perceived weakness most any player has. My point was that Sengun has to be a focal point based on skillset and therefore in the future has to be great enough overall to warrant the team being molded to fit around any weaknesses he has at that point. Jalen could just be a heat check scorer off the bench in the future and whatever team he's on won't have to adjust to him. There's really no limited role that exists for a low post playmaker. I put a little bit more thought into my post than just I like player x or don't like player x.
LOL do you even use your brain before opening your mouth? unlike you sengun is very versatile and he can play PG and center, can play equally effective on ball and off ball, can attack from the perimeter and low post, and he can playmake from anywhere on the court not only from low post... besides why wouldn't there be a limited role low post playmaker? your imagination is zero sengun can play in any sheme, he proved it by being the best defender , best offensive player and best player on these rockets where he is being 100% held back and played to his weaknesses, in a system which is not in any way suited for his strengths surrounded with worst personel coachin and teammates SENGUN IS THE EASIEST PLAYER TO BUILD AROUND in the entire nba
he could be better than jokic...hes just physically superior to him and already has better handles and better foul drawing ability! the sky is the limit for alperen!
Bench player on a championship team. Great offensively, severe defensive issues which could make him unplayable in the playoffs. Not a franchise player or a guy you build your team around. Great complimentary piece. Might end up being a trade asset to help land the franchise guy.

•“Sengun would have home court(?HC) secured already” •“Sengun is the offensive system” •“Sengun can carry any bunch of players into the playoffs(?PO)” Why isn’t he carrying the Rockets into the playoffs? Silas is holding Sengun back from leading the Rockets to multiple championships! Bless your heart Max Keep the funnies coming.
Very solid analysis. He is great on the block, average at midrange, needs to get a 3ball on offense. Putrid on defense due to his just not paying attention, he ball watches and gets out of position all the time....his attention to detail on defense is awful. DD
lol you know whats really funny? its how zion ingram dame, shai etc, some of them with allstar supporting casts and team allround them catered to their very needs and they are allowed to ballhog to the infinity are the bottom of the conference!!!! explain this and while at it you gotta acknowledge circumstances matter...just as when player breaks his leg, or weights too much, or too little, he cant lead his team into playoffs, in the same way you cant lead team into playoffs if you play 15 minutes a game, you are constantly being benched, the ball is taken from your hands and teammates wont pass you the ball none of these guys is any better than sengun and he would 100% do better with the same supporting casts because, while they are as potent as scorers as sengun, he is a superior playmaker than dame, shai, zion,AD and almost anyone in NBA....
hit the gym, hit the proper diet then we will talk..you cant expect us to trust an opinion of a extremely fat guy...your body is suffocating your mind
i seen sengun is better than harden currently, but where are the rest of these delusional takes comin from? all from hakeem94?
Its comical how almost all 'objective' evaluators fail to mention Sengun's elite foul drawing ability and the fact that he already has a higher career FTr than 3x MVP Nikola Jokic Do these clowns, otherwise obsessed with dumbalytics, even know what FTr is?
