Novak should see playing time. At least give him some burn in the upcoming knicks game. Channing Frye is playing like crap, was never a very good rebounder anyways, and his offensive game is primarily jump shots. He's the perfect guy for Steve to guard! And on the other side of the floor he gives Yao all the space he needs. Do the right thing JVG: play some Novak!

No use guys. JVG will never play Novak unless it's like a 20 pt blowout.

Right now I'm more concerned with V-Span's PT.

MORE playing time for V Span and Novac are essential to the Rockets season.
Les should insist that JVG make space for them to gain their NBA experience!
By the way what happened to Bonzi Wells ? He was missing from to-days game Roster.

I agree...He still has a lot of learning to do. The problem is he can't put the ball down on the floor as well as a Kyle Korver so he doesn't pose as much of a threat. Defenses will play tight on him and he's forced to pass. This is unlike the other 3 point shooters (Battier, Head, Alston, TMac) who force the defenses to honor the drive. The only way Novakane can combat the problem is knowing where he should be on the floor at all times and knowing passing angles from the post position. He's still got to study game tape to get there but I believe he'll come around. This is his first time being just a roll player and it takes time to adapt.

It's absurd to say that JVG is not playing Novak because he hates rookies. He's in a contract year and he's trying to win every game and if he thought playing Novak would produce wins he would.

You took the words right out of my mouth! What's with the love for Scott Pagett. The guy got insomnia worrying about getting cut! Now all of sudden, he's Ryan Bowen II. Nothing against Pagett personally. But this is the game not real life. Jeff Van Gundy is a smart guy, but he's got to be more flexible and be willing to take some risks by which i mean he should give Steve Novak more minutes than Pagett. After all, if Luther Head hadn't been given the oppotunities last season, he wouldn't be who he is right now. No one can argue against that he's very solid so far.

Novak is going to get some PT so relax...it's not the first time that a coach sat down a 2nd round pick...he's got skills as a shooter but needs to learn more than one trick...which will help him get more time on the floor. He has to defend and rebound and cut to the basket as well. I believe he'll play tonight and get around 10 minutes or so...

I sure hope he plays tonight against the Bucks. I'll be at the game along with a lot of my fellow Brown Deer, WI residents (Steve's hometown). ;)

How many times should I repeat?

JVG doesn't trust rookie! He may somewhat play them in the beginning, but when things get tight, he will completely abandon them.

He doesn’t' t have the patience to develop rookie, especially it could be his last year coaching in Houston.

How about we wait til Novak shows he has a clue as to how to play an NBA game with the rest of the team first?

Novak on court: Rockets score 91 points per 100 posessions, Opponents score 116 points per 110 posessions.

Novak off court: Rockets score 112 points per 100 posessions, Opoonents score 102 points per 100 poessions.

His play in limited minutes has not exactly inspired confidence. Anyone who wants the team to win would hesitate to put him in right now.

I think you meant 100 possessions there :p

Anyway, nice stats, where you got those from?

If that's the case, then Novak really needs to work on his defense.

If you watch the Rockets games Novak is not ready yet. He is not in the right places and not getting open. His turn will come but he needs some time.

If Novak is on...his player is going to blow past him and cause Yao to foul

hence we loose the game because Yao gets fouled out

So No Novak unless his player has 0 offence

padge does play better D and rebound better than Novak. But when he gets the ball Padge needs to shoot rather than pass when he is wide open. Is he going thru another round of JVG anxiety issues: oh god if I miss one more three he's gonna cut my ass......

and I would have liked to have seen Vspan on Chris Paul with some of his in your face D and see if that would disrupt Paul's O a little bit as rafer wasn't cutting it on a back to back game.

But wait, with Gundy we can look forward to another night tonight of tired 4th quarter legs while the cavalry sits on the bench filing their nails.....

not Mr. Congeniality but certainly Mr. Predictability :(

Van Gundy doesn't trust Novak or VSpan because his terminology is vastly different from Marquette and Panathanaikos.
