I don't think statistics would support that statement; if you compare Dubai and Houston, my guess would be there is more crime in Houston (against Americans!).

Not my intention to give him a hard time...just trying to get a better understanding myself, since it is closer for me to travel there than for you Americans :).

I thought he was talking about Dubai. I have no idea how safe Libya is. My whole point of the argument is that some places in the Middle East (Dubai, Bahrain, etc.) are totally safe for Americans. And their beauty can rival anything that Hawaii or Bahamas has to offer.

Of course there are places like Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. that are death wishes to any travelers from US.

Here is a great website to check out if you are into the Roman ruins.

If I knew how to post the pictures I would. But on the website they are ancient pics of what it used to look like, and a photo of the site today.

There are numerous pictures of glorious looking ruins. It's really amazing to see.

Chance, and anyone else if you are interested in the history that's still around today, check it out.

The pictures of the seating are of the theatre is really inspiring.

Also check out this Roman Villa and other pics on this page.

I LIVED IN LIBYA FOR 5 YEARS..

so i can answer whatever you want to know about that place.

the Roman Sites are worth seeing if your into that kind of stuff...i was a little too young to appreciate that sort of thing.

you may want to stay out of certain places since Americans(white) people ar'nt too appreciated...you'll get rocked...literally :)

though Libya is Safe...all my friends were Americans- U.K - Irish....so i know it's safe....nobody is gonna kill you...actually most people are treated well by the elders....its the kids that are cruel.....

when me and my boys used to go play ball at a college there we'd sometimes get attacked by kids throwing rocks.....they would'nt really throw it at you though......its just to scare you off....ahhhhhhhhh memories :)

anyways its safe to go there.

may want to go to Greece and Malta while your so close.

Guys, How many of you would go to Israel/Palestine given the chance. I have a very good chance of going there, and I really would like to not only visit the Islamic sites, but also the places sacred to the Christians and Jews, but most of all I want to see the conflict for myself, i want to experiance it both ways, as an American citizen living with an Israeli Family, and as an Arab Muslim... MY parents are totally against it, but a Jewish family is going from here, and I was thinking that I could go with them, and then later go to my aunts dads place and experiance their point of view...

Im still deciding, but its a once in a lifetime oppurtunity, but then again there is the fear of getting killed either side...

I would probably not go to Israel/Palestine right now. The only city I would probably go to at the moment would be Elat, supposedly a nice beach town, where no terrorist attacks have taken place so far.

And I would definitely not ride the bus...

If I had the opportunity (that is, funds), I'd go to Israel right now. While there is an inherent danger there, plus a heightened danger for being American, I think my chances of being killed are still well under 50%. If you wait, there might not be anything left to see. Now, if I had Palestinian relatives, there'd be even more reason to go. May suffer a little state oppression, but at least there'd be a people there who were your own. Being able to go see and live on both sides honestly does sound like a great opportunity. That you might be killed just adds to the adventure. :D Seriously, if you're in danger of being killed, that means your friend and your uncle are also in danger. They're still willing.

    Hey hey hey...

There will be no dissing Dubai. Absolutely none, zip, zero.

RockHead, tell us where you live. THEN let's debate if it's safer there or in Dubai.

There are more expats than locals in the UAE. I have not once heard of an American getting hurt for being American. Never.

It's unheard of. Dubai, at the moment, is probably one of the safest places in the world that is modern, luxurious, and a great tourist spot.

Does this look like an unsafe city to you:

    Paradise

Will Smith and David Beckham have homes here. Robert Deniro has also inquired (all in The Palms btw).

I have absolutely no clue why, but Tracy McGrady even came to Dubai for a visit. He was chilling at the Jumeirah Beach Resort.

This is probably not the best of times for Americans to be in that part of the world. Dubai appears safe, but Bali was a Tropical hot spot for foreigners to holiday before terrorist blew up 200 people. So one act of horror could destroy paradise. Plus Dubai is probably very expensive. So save your cash and go to New Orleans, where hand grenades don't kill you.

Yeah, in New Orleans, hand grenades are the least of your worries. :D

Ridiculous. Bali is not a safe country by any means. how could you compare it to Dubai?

What's the difference how you get killed? Are you trying to avoid terrorists or death?

You're talking safety right? I could go live with Hamas and I would be safe, since they don't hate me. But is living with Hamas safe ?

Dubai has an incredibly incredibly low crime rate, and there has never been any TRACE of terrorism.

You are assuming that you will come here and stick out like a sore thumb. Clearly, that is because you've never been here.
