He could stay with my parents.
My dad speaks Chinese though it is Cantonese. He understand a lot of Mandarin
My dads family has many friends in the Houston Chinese community
Including Margaret Wong the Houston congresswomen.
They all were born and raised in America
My Grandma came from China and is still alive
She has sponsored several Chinese to come to school here.
They love to have foreign exchange students.

The Rockets organization should find such an individual (Chinese and English speaking, grad student, whatever) and set them up with Ming in a condo/apt. Some place near the Rockets' arena(s), say, inside the loop, off 59 going toward downtown. Or downtown. (Not bad for the international scene, either.)

Funny, I live just off of 59 in a condo/apt near downtown...and my parents speak mandarin chinese.

Anyhow, I don't believe Margaret Wong is a congressional member.. though I think she's on the Houston City Council.

Aren't many strippers college students working toward their phd? I'm thinking there has to be an asian or two the The Mens Club that would fit Yao's criteria.

How about the lawyer of Rockets. I forget his name. His kids talked with Ming on the phone. I think they like him and they can teach him some basic English.

If he's going to live with a family in America, why not put him with the Osbourns??? He'll be able to see how it is to live with a family that doesn't eat their pets, but steps all over their fecies :)

Don't worry all, I'm Chinese as well so I am entitled to make fun of my own people.

He could live with me. I have a roommate who is a grad student and I know some Japanese and I'm trying to learn some Chinese. I could try to school him in NBA 2k2 and 2k3 when it comes out. He could use the membership to 24 hour fitness that I have yet to use to work on his upper body strength.

I bet Steve Francis would love to have Ming come and live with him. ;)

Seriously though, I think its a geat idea to have Ming live with an adopted family. When Hakeem Olajuwon first came to Houston from Nigeria he lived with one of the U of H coaches and his family for awhile. He said it did wonders for him while he was feeling out -- what seem to him at the time -- a new and strange culture.

If this is Mings wish, Im guessing the Rockets organization will hold interviews for potential candidants and choose the best person/persons for Yao Ming.

Given the NBA schedule, Ming's primary residence from October to May will be "the road." :)
