Sending my family to Shreveport and doing a thing called "Weather or Not Weekend" at the Improv Comedy Club here in Houston.
Well, I'm in DC, but my family is still in Houston and College Station. Both parents workplaces shutdown thursday and friday, so they'll be traveling up to College Station tomorrow to see the Aggie game (they have season tix), and stay overnight. Friday, after my brother's last class, they'll head to Dallas to stay with friends over the weekend. Everyone stay safe!
agreed. i'm at the galleria (basically) and need to get to my house in spring. but i hear traffic is bumper-to-bumper on 610 and 45N... anyone know for sure? this sucks.
Ha, I'm at home watching the news and they are saying that it is taking 4 hours to get from 610 to The Woodlands. You are ridiculously screwed. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. We are gonna stick it out here. We have spent all day today buying crap and getting ready. I'm cleaning out the garage tomorrow and I'm going to tape all the windows just to be safe. My mom and brother will probably come stay with us and I'm trying to talk my friend and his girlfriend that live in Sugarland to come stay with us as well. We live in the Klien area, have a pretty sturdy house, and do not have a ton of trees right in our neighborhood. I'm hoping we will be safe and can wait it out. I did make sure my jet ski was working and have a tank of fuel for it just in case. I cant imagine using it but if push comes to shove, I have no qualms about riding that b**** over to Walmart or where ever.
I'm thinking of leaving tonight at around 1 am. Would that be the smartest option to avoid traffic? I'm really not lookign forward to a 10 hour drive to Dallas.
There seems to be a lot more panic now as a result of Katrina earlier this month. I'm by no means a Dr. Neil Frank, but I think that the damage will be mostly around Galveston and head south towards Victoria/Corpus. Anyone have any idea of what kind of damage Sugar Land is expecting? I'm hearing mostly downed trees and heavy winds. Times like these, I'm glad I don't live in Houston.
the White man said city employees can go... except the library. the homeless people need a place to chill til 9pm... it's not like we have family(i guess) to go to. ::mike tyson voice:: luda kwis.
Ok, I'm going to Del Rio, I'm taking my computer cause I live it on it. Let you guys know how it is down there. Wish me luck on my journey. Have to be there by noon but my mama wants to leave soon. Probably about 9 or ten. We'll see. EVERYONE PLEASE BE SAFE!!!!!
should residents of Kingwood evacuate? I am worried about my family, they are already hosting Katrina evacuees... kingwood got flooded pretty bad back in 93, so how do they look over there by the San Jac river and Lake Houston??
What do you guys think about the Spring/Woodlands area......are any of you guys that live my way leaving town? We're thinking about staying, but we have a place to stay in Austin. Not really sure what to do.
Im pretty much freaking out right now. I think I am going to head to Amarillo and hope everything goes okay. Hopefully all of this is precautionary, but damn I dont want to hit that traffic on 290 either. Good luck getting to Wichita RM..... Man I hear I-45 is a freaking zoo...
i live in spring (cypresswood and 45) and i'm leaving tomorrow, although i dont know what time yet. this thing is a monster, and even though it'll probably die down a bit before it hits, they're still estimated around 100-110 mph winds in this area. f*ck that! i have a perfectly good (and big) house in san marcos that i planned on moving out of next week, so i still have all my stuff there. no reason to wait it out here sans water and electricity when my family can be there.... quite comfortably might i add. my roommate has his family from victoria staying too, so we'll be a little tight, but still fairly comfortable since there's 2 open bedrooms and a ton of space (the house is 2600+ sq.ft.).
On News 2 Houston they showed a map that had the Spring area still getting upwards of 110 MPH winds if its a direct hit. That being said, home damage should be minimal, especiall if you and your neighbors get all the yard stuff in the garage to cut down on projectiles. The biggest danger other than localized street flooding, will be spun of twisters. The most probably kind of damage will be roof and shingle damage, or damage from trees falling and limbs flying. If you have a well built house in a place where it tends not to flood, you should be just fine riding it out if you are North of Houston especially. They kept harping on this saying: Run from water, Hide from Wind. Hunker down in your house away from windows on the bottom floor if you are out of flood and storm surge areas and there should be almost no risk of injury and most probably minimal damage. Expect some lost tree limbs or trees, maybe a broken window from a projectile, but nothing that should put you in harm's way.
Did anyone catch the wind speed projections for the southwest part of Houston - like the Missouri City/Stafford area?
Bill White hates asian people that works at the library. I got to wake my ass up at 4am, and board the house...without powertools! no drill, no saw thing.
