damn, I was in L.A. for the weekend and I was out of touch with media sources, and now I hear Galves, New Orleans, or maybe even houston could get slammed... this is going to depress my family, they all evacuated N.O and went to HOuston, noe they are all going to have to go up to Austin with my brother or maybe Denton with my little sister
Does anybody have a job that they have to show up to even if the hurricane hits? I do. I will be sending my family to Dallas, though.
If anyone has photo albums and video tapes of family events, make sure you take them. The storm can take away everything except pictures of my son, when he was young. Everything else is replaceable. Take pictures for the insurance comany and board itup as best as you can. I pray no one on this board is affected by Rita.
If you're leaving a home that's going to take a direct hit from a Cat 4, are you supposed to shut off the water and gas ( a real pain, since I guess you'd have to relight some pilots afterwards) ? I would recommend filling your tubs..er clean tubs... with water.
I'll be sitting at home cursing the fact that I won't be able to get satellite reception to watch college football on saturday.
Cat 3 or less and I board up my house in clear lake, take my dogs and head down to my grandparents house in Angleton, board up their house and wait it out. Cat 4 or higher and i'm out of here, not sure where to go yet.
I booked a trip to Minneapolis, MN for Thursday - Sunday Night to see the John Mayer Trio two months ago. I am so smart I am so smart SMRT, I mean SMART.
Unless you are a COP FIREMAN EMT Doctor or Nurse I would say FARK that noise and leave town if it is Cat 3 or higher.
FARK!!! me too!! And I have tickets to Oasis on Sunday night.... BOOO!!! Freaking Hurricanes....... I think I am going to stay here unless its really bad. Then I will head up to Austin or something....
Can't belive I missed this thread- guess I'm just focused on the other Rita thread. Since I'm in Galveston, I will tape up the windows, grab the pictures, paperwork, file server, clothes, dog, cat and wife, cross my fingers and head to Ft. Worth to stay with relatives. Insurance definately gives me so much more peace of mind in this type of situation.
Mostly new stuff / blues. They have a new song called "Who did you think I was" available streamed on AOL music sessions. John said its our "homework" before the show. He expects us to be signing along.
This is a good read. http://www.cityofgalveston.org/_private/newstool/newsdoc/Ch_16_Evacuation_Routes_061505.pdf I didn't know once mandatory evac is ordered, you have to take specific route and technically stay on it until you are many miles out of Houston. i.e. if you start from Galveston, you have to take I45 all the way to Huntsville. From Clear Lake, you take Hwy 146 alll the way to Lufkin. I believe they don't even allow you to exit early because it means people on the left lane will need to change to the right lane and causes congestion or accident.
I live in Austin so I've invited a couple of friends to stay up at my place if it looks like it will hit Houston.
