How many people are going with you? The cheapest and sometimes the best way to get around in Europe is hitchiking. The best combination for hitchiking is a girl and a guy. Women alone might have some problem, and multiple guys won't get as many rides either.

It's a cool way to talk to people and get around cheaply. There isn't near the risk in Europe that there is in the U.S., but some people aren't really comfortable hitchhiking.

The train is great and leads to great stories as you can see. I had an interesting train experience where a pickpocket befriended me, because of our common interest in art, history, and renaissance theatre. He decided not to rob me because of that.

you should be able to get from london to amsterdam for cheap. as some have recommended try the cheap airlines like ryanair or goair, but also ba or bmi. failing that the train ain't that expensive. personally the train is just as fast from shipol airport but it ain't as nice as the mercedes cabs. i prefer to ride in style. there are plenty of cheap ass hotels. no need to stay in a hostel. stay in the leidesplien area instead of the red light district. there are plenty of 'coffee shops' in the area. in fact, they are much cooler than those IN the red light district. Try Noon - my favorite. Not too much action but great hash and a cool place to throw some bones and relax. The hotels are cheaper and all you really need is a room and they have great Euro breakfasts!

Well, first off I'm happy about 2 things tonight/this morning:

    1. My post didn't fall all the way back to the 2nd or 3rd page, where I'd have to go digging for it.

    2. I just picked up the DJ Kool - Let Me Clear My Throat Vinyl, for cheap.

    3. Hitch was a pretty good movie.

    Okay, make that 3.

Anyhow, I think I'm feeling the night train suggestion. I plan on having round 1,000 US bucks, in probably travelers cheques, and maybe have some euros on me just in case. Like someone said, hitchiking wouldn't be a bad idea, but I'm goin with another guy....no.....nothin like that. :p Just one of the boys.

Keep the suggestions coming, remember, this is the preliminary itinerary:

    March 25th-26th : Arrive @ London
March 26th-29th: France (Arc De Triumph(?), Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum (That is in Paris right?)
    March 30th-April 1st: Amsterdam
April 2nd-4th: London, back home to the USA

    Rockets R US -

I'm leaving for France on Monday. I'll get back at the end of Feb. and I will let you know anything major that can't be missed, or must be missed.

I've been before but not in over a decade.
