Believe it or not I read a book about time travel by this princeton astrophysicist guy a couple of years ago. I can't remmber the name but it was pretty good. Anyway, his theory for time paradoxes went like this, Time travel IS theoretically possible. You could even go backward in time and shake hands with your past self. The classic backwards time travel paradox, just like the spaceship one we are talking about, is this: What happens if you go back to the past and kill your own father before you are born? Well, from what I recall, he explored the branching timelines/alternate futures/change history scenario (that was involved in back to the future 2, if you recall ) and dismissed it for reasons that I admit I can't recall, though I think it maybe came from his speculation that theoretical backwards time travel was not physically possible in our universe under the branching timelines scenario. He subscribed to the theory that there was only one timeline, even if you were able to go back in time and try to kill your father, circumstances would conspire to prevent you from doing so. e.g., the gun would misfire if you tried to shoot him, or he wouldn't be there. So essentially, he was saying that you can't change history in a way that would disrupt the timeline, even if you wanted to. So to answer your question, under this theory; Marky mark woudn't disintegrate, instead, General thade would go back to the past and circumstances would conspire to cause him to be unsuccessful in starting the ape rebellion. But hey, it's all just a theory! Who knows.
Sam Fisher: This is why Quantum Leap and to a lesser extent Slider's were always great shows. They made you think. I really hope the networks come up with a new Quantum Leap scenario. This was the best show I ever watched.
There were tons of messages in the first movie. Remember the unflinching belief in their religion? Dr. Zaius did what he could to protect their religion and culture at the expense of learning the truth and advancing science. Remember the young nephew of Cornelius and Zera? Heston told him to not let the older generation push him around or something, that it was up to his generation to always improve on things or something like that. Of course, there was a message about cruelty to animals with humans taking the metaphorical place of animals that we do testing and studies on and what not. Interesting movie, I read the book too, but I already forgot most of it or it's message.
this show is Quantum-esque: "Tru Calling" (FOX Thursdays 8/7c Fall 2003) What would you do if you could relive a day? If you’re TRU DAVIES (ELIZA DUSHKU, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), you’d save lives. Tru is a smart, sexy recent college graduate who – when her high-powered medical internship falls through – finds herself working the midnight shift at the New York City morgue. One night, Tru questions reality when she thinks she hears a beautiful murder victim asking for her help. But the next morning, our heroine wakes up to find that she is back at the beginning of that very same day – twelve hours before a murder that only she knows about is set to take place. With the clock ticking, Tru is compelled to traverse the city of New York over those next twelve hours to prevent this wrongful death, while at the same time rescuing members of her own family from their dangerous and self-destructive lives.
Eliza Dushku is hot and Zack Galifinacus(sp), the guy on the right with the beard and sports coat, is hilarious. This show does sound a lot like Early Edition and I don't see it lasting.
