Planet Earth in HD is absolutely amazing. If you have not watched this HD Discovery channel show, check it out. It is one of the best programs out to show off your HD TV.

Looks the same as regular HD nature shows to me. Planet Earth seems over hyped. Its just marketed to the extreme.

How about walking out into nature...for real. It's like, three-dimensional and stuff. WOW!

Have you seen them or are you just saying it "seems" over hyped? Definitely one of the more amazing shows I've seen in a while. The shots they get are unbelievable.

Does anyone know if they will come out with Planet Earth HD on DVD? I know they are already pre-selling the entire series but I'm not sure if it is in HD or not.

Yeah, they have the show in HD available on HD DVD and Blu-ray. I think they go on sale this week actually. Or at least that is when they ship according to Amazon.

I watched em. Maybe I was expecting too much? Ive seen some HD shows about insects that blow my mind. I genuinely feel its just marketed down our throats. But thats just me.

The only problem is the HD-DVD/Blu-ray sets drop the extras that were on the SD-DVDs. That's inexcusable. You would think 30 or 25 GB discs would mean all the extras would be ported over. Especially when the HD versions are more expensive.

make sure you buy the Richard Attenborough BBC version of it. He's a lot better than segurny weaver...that guy could read anything and make it sound interesting

I had a problem with their self-promotion at a couple of points. There is one episode where they are out in the African Veldt tracking some wild dogs and the narrator starts talking about how wonderful and revolutionary the shots are etc. etc.

That, for me, was inappropriate self promotion. When I am watching a nature show I only want to be thinking about the nature, not the how cool the helicopter mounted cameras are, or how many years of his life the film maker wasted waiting to get these shots.

are you serious or is your sarcastic meter always stuck on 'on'?
    they get some amazing shots:
    - bird eye views of herds over plains
    - underwater from the fish's perspective
    - underground caves that can hold several air hangars
    - polar bears, snow leopards, eagles..

sometimes posting just to get a response is lame.

Planet Earth is the realest- just the time it took to make such an immaculate program is extraordinary. Also, I learn new things about nature every time I sit down to watch it. Plus it is an awesome program to impress your friends with (if you have a HDTV that is)
