I was ready to drop the issue but after seeing basso's hemming and hawing (mostly hawing), I feel we may need to convene a FORMAL Executive Review Board session to determine whether or not he should be brought up on charges.

Fellow ERB members, meet me in an AIM chatroom, and wear something hot.

Not creative at all. There have been several instances where folks posted something like an article or a quote and it was obvious they forgot to post the link. I may have done it a time or two. No big deal. Somebody says "hey, where's the link?" You say "Sorry, forgot." It's a regular enough occurance that there's almost an accepted protocol. However, none of those fall into the category of plagiarism like yours does.

When your plagiarism was pointed out, your first action was to try to get us to buy into the notion that you intended to post a link... yet you didn't block the quote, you didn't say "From Hot Air" or something similar, and you put in phrases that made it look like it was your own work. In short, you did nothing to show that your intent was to post a link. Saying you just forgot to post a link, well, that's almost as dishonest as the original plagiarism because that also shows an intent to mislead and take advantage of the way the BBS works.

When it was clear nobody was buying what you were selling, you drug me into it with the clear (though incredibly wrong) message that my post was plagiarism in form if not fact. When people didn't buy that and more importantly, when people wouldn't allow you to change the subject, you got a little pissy. At no point in the original thread did you really address your plagiarism.

This thread is more of the same, but still, I have now offered to forget about it twice, yet you still come back with posts like this.

i didn't say i forgot to post a link. i said i should have. read the post. both the one in the other thread, and this one. read what it says, not what you want it to say.

Well, duh. We already know you have no opinions of your own and must resort to plagiarism. But, thanks for reinforcing the point that rim made; that when other posters (on both the right and left) do it, it's because they forgot; as opposed to when you do it as a conscious effort to pass others words off as your own as you admit above.

    not very hard.

If I stole a pair of sneakers from somebody and in my apology I said, "Did I steal the sneakers?" And then set about trying to show that my theft of the sneakers wasn't really anything more than me trying to test them out before I got my own pair, but because everyone else misunderstood what I did with the sneakers I am sorry for that misunderstanding, it wouldn't be much of an apology.

The Plagiarism wasn't half-ass, why should the apology be?

I should have paid for those sneakers, but after I tried them on, I forgot I was wearing them and walked to my car. Except for that, no harm. Here, I'll even take back my old shoes I accidentally left in the store and tell you about my favorite t-shirt designs. Besides, boot wearers try on boots before they buy them.

Really? Perhaps you can direct us all to basso's post containing the phrase "I apologize" or "I'm sorry". What he's trying to do is obfuscate...and he just admitted that he made a conscious decision not to link to the article he plagiarized.

Walter, you're opening a can of whup-ass here without even tryin'.

basso, I'm a Houston native, but my father's side of the family is from East Texas. From outside of Quitman, Mineola, Marshall and other places. Typical small ranches and homesteads. My grandfather came from Arkansas to East Texas in a wagon as a kid, and lived to be 99. His father opened a general store at a crossroads that did well, but they went bankrupt during the Depression. Great-Grandpa couldn't turn his back on his longtime customers, taking credit until he just couldn't stay in business. I still have many relatives in the area, but the ones I know best are dying off.

You're really beating yourself up here. People are sensitive about this stuff because we only know each other through what we write and post on the BBS. Few of us have met outside of ClutchFans. If we can't trust other members to write their own material, or cite material they get from others, it undermines the whole setup. The entire exercise becomes a farce. That's why MacBeth was so vilified when he was caught with his pants down, and he was well liked by a lot of people. I wish he was still around. Some of us like you, although we may wonder why, on occasion. None of us are perfect. Several have said they're ready to put it in the past and move on. I tried to get that started. You ain't helping.

Just say your sorry for doing something foolish, so we can continue to discuss the events in the Middle East, the possible presidential candidates in '08, the Chinese anti-missile test, Chavez's latest idiocy. You know... the reason we're here. It's not Rockets science.

    Ditto.

And who the heck "spell checks" before posting in a forum?

'Obsession' might be the word I am looking for here...

From time to time, I write my replies on a wordpad just so a long winded post of mine doesn't go poof with a bad connection.

People are creatures of habit. If a guy needs outlines to help prove a point, then so be it.

As for the topic... It's easy to plagaraize with the net, but no one would think less if you give credit to whatever help or inspiration you get it from.

If a word looks misspelled, I'll spell check it in a separate window. I'm a terrible speller, but my spelling has improved immensely after 13 bazillion posts.

Dude, I just read that post by gifford. You were caught red handed.
If you were a student and turned that in as an assignment you'd be flunked for cheating.
