Live in Uptown (Bars) area for what you're looking for but do you really want to drive 30 min each way to where you work?

Addison is probably the ideal place for you to live. Good retaurants and close to both DFW and Love Field airports. I would recommend uptown but it'll be quite a drive to work for you.

Las Colinas is another option but it's a little more laid back than Addison/Uptown.

I've lived off Lovers/75 when I first lived in Dallas and its a great location...in between uptown and addison...

Uptown is a great place if your single...

I live near Addison and I love it...the only thing is smoking is allowed in bars where in Dallas its not...tons of great places to hang and the crowd varies by location...it only takes 15-20 minutes from Addison to Uptown so its not a big deal as far as distance is concerned...

For your price range, probably Addison...

It doesn't matter where you live just as long as you act like you live in a mansion.

Sure, but I'd change jobs only if I knew where I was going BEFORE even accepting it... or if the company offered relocation help. If no, then... NO. I guess I'd have to think about my family, first, and then myself... but that's just my opinion.

You're 35. You're not young anymore. Give it up.

That being said, if you're looking at jobs in Lewsville, Coppell, and North Dallas, your best bet is the Addison area. Coppell is full of upper middle class families, Lewisville is a mixture of family housing, but North Dallas is full of shopping and $30,000 millionaires. Just what you're looking for. :)

I'd first find out where you'll be working before making a decision on where you'll be staying. The drive times may be all over the place. Oh, and prepare to pay tolls - factor that into your budget if you're a budgeting type.

There's a crapload of apartment complexes in Lewisville so if he gets a gig there and wants to live fairly close to work that would be a decent option.
My suggestion to him was Las Colinas. Fairly close to Lewisville/Coppell and the North Dallas area while still being close enough to the Uptown area to get to doing the cool things that young cool people do. Plus the apartments by the Mustangs are pretty nice.

Las Colinas to anywhere east may be a nightmare with the construction on LBJ. And if you take George Bush, you'll be paying a mortgage a year in tolls. But this is why I said he needs to figure out where he's working first if where he'll be hanging out is that important.

Also, the reason I said "family housing" about Lewisville is because the area is more geared toward families than "hang out and pick up chicks". Then again, I don't go out there that much, so maybe I'm wrong.

BTW, I used to live in Las Colinas, and Cool River would be a good place to pick up gold diggers. lol. :)

I was laid off, recently. The job offers in Houston have not met my expectations.

I had 2 interviews in Houston for a $16k paycut or a $5k paycut. I had 3 interviews in Dallas(Coppell/Lewisville/N. Dallas). I made it past the HR dept and have interviewed with the managers. I am in the final round of hiring. They are offering $8k-$12k raise.

I am not willing to take a $5k-$16k paycut to stay in Houston. We are looking at a $13-28k difference between Houston and Dallas, while the cost of rent is only slightly higher in Dallas. I am not ready to give away up to $2300/month for a 3.5 hr drive on the weekends or a quick plane trip.

My uncles, aunts, and cousins live in Vietnam. I am just as far away to them, in Dallas as I am in Houston. I have a few siblings in Houston, but we work hard all week and see each other on the weekends. I would still see them on the weekends with a quick plane trip and car rental.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Addison and Las Colinas seem to be great suggestions. I will have to investigate the commute for the other areas that are closer to Uptown.
