NOT TRUE! Tim and his entire department were brought on one year ago. They had absolutely nothing to do with the pinstripes at all. I think anyone who has looked at the changes they have made to their marketing over the past year - and they have been dramatic - will realize this is not close to the same staff they had when the last change was made. Freak: You do realize, I assume, that only a handful of uniforms in the entire professional sports world, let alone the NBA, bear resembelence to uniforms worn 20, 30 or 40 years ago by the same teams, right? Compraring the Celtics to the rest of the NBA doesn't apply because they are the exception, not the rule. For the record, I do think a change to blue was a mistake. Rockets = red. That is just common sense. However, unless your accent color is white (i.e. Boston), I don't have any problem with it changing, especially when the color is that ugly-ass yellow.
I agree with you here, though I wouldn't have minded the gold staying as well. I thought all along that it was our COLORS that should have remained....I wouldn't have minded an updated logo....even though the current logo makes me want to puke every bit as much as the current colors and pinstripes.
Cleveland got it right (the whole new uniform thing) They just unveiled their new unis. http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/
Lakers Blazers Spurs SuperSonics Bulls Pistons Knicks Celtics 'Only a handful' in ALL of sports? These are also the best uniforms in the NBA.
The new Cavs unis are pretty safe, if not a little boring. Maybe "cutting edge" won't be such a bad thing.
Here they are Here is the direct link to the photo gallery for more images including close ups on the logos etc. http://www.cleveland.com/sports_galleries/gallery.ssf?/cleve/images/1777/index.html
Here's a look at Portland's uni circa 1974.... Sports is a microcosm of life. As fashion trends fade in and out, so do uniform trends. During the mid 90's, there was a trend of bold colors and big logos on uniforms that started with that big, dumbass purple dinosaur that was originally on the Raptors uniforms. Thankfully, that trend is going away. The problem that the Rockets, Sonics, and Pistons did was, instead of updating their uniforms or modernizing them, they completely revamped them, which can cause fans to lose touch with the team.
The new Cavs uniforms are decent. Like it was said above..they are "safe." Which is not bad though! They do remind me a lot of the Tampa Bay Bucs uniforms with the dark red and the sword though.
Agreed. I think you can safely update or re-vamp an existing uniform, but to completely change a uniform fans have identified with for 20 years can get in in big trouble. Hell I was only 20 when they went to the PJs and I still feel at times like I'm watching a different team. Never a good thing, imo.
Hmmmm? HA! So I guess perhaps we can assume that the Rockets want this jersey to have "global" appeal and thus were leaving off "houston" to do this. For the Yao/China crowd. And then Doc gives us a "Hmm" on the "Superman" notion of possibly an "H" or "R" or "HR" on the Rockets uniforms. I have to tell ya, visually I don't like the idea of just an "H" or "R" on the Rockets jersey. I don't care if the jersey says "houston" or not, but if it does not it needs to atleast say "Rockets"! Perhaps this is one of the "cutting edge" aspects they were talking about? Is there any jersey in the NBA that does not either have 1) the full team mascot name or 2) the city name? I can't think of one!...for now?
