If they were rejected by the NBA, that can only mean one thing. Tim M. lost the fight between the graphical desginer the Rockets hired and his own ideas. The lady they hired was using words like "nouveaux" and "trend setting." Tim M. wanted to keep it classic and simple. Steve Francis's Uniform
I like the ornamental sword but you left out the snake slithering through the eye-sockets. Nothing says class like a snake slithering through bloody eye-sockets! THAT would be sweet! And by "sweet" I mean "totally awesome"!
If she's using words like "nouveaux" to describe our uniform you know it's going to be gay. "Nouveaux" is half-a-step away from being "precious". I can feel my testosterone levels dropping from just typing the word. In fact, I think I need to go eat some red meat right away. Extra rare please.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I knew I shouldn't have submitted that pink and green design I found on the board. Damn. Nothing has been rejected. We're just in the normal process of working with the league -- we create a design, they show us what can be manufactured with reasonable efficiency, we work together on modifications, etc. As people mentioned upstream, Cleveland's design is very conservative. It's a much easier process there. We don't think what we're doing is space age or radical, but requires a little more manufacturing/design conversation than what Cleveland needed. I'm not in a position yet to reveal anything about the design, but I did find the comments about color forecasting interesting. We really didn't do that, though -- we concentrated on what we thought was the Rockets "DNA" and what we heard from fan feedback. I don't believe color forecasting is a great tool for an existing brand, which the Rockets are, or brands that are going to be around for a long time. For new products expected to have a short life cycle, it can be very valuable. Tim
Why can't we do like the Pistons, and Soincs did with their jerseys. They look like the throwbacks but more up to date. Or do we prefer a jersey like the Mavs that say "Houston" on both road and home. Speaking of old, what was the original logo with the ball and the red stripes around it mean?
I still think those jersey's rule. Right when the Rockets took their tradition to a new level by winning it all in back to back years, we ruined that by redesigning out entire look a few years later. It was a huge marketing mistake to make such drastic changes with the team colors and the horrible uni's. We NEED to ditch the red, white and blue and get back to the colors that people associate with the NBA Championships that Houston won. Red and gold, forever bold!
Why does everyone say "Red and Gold" when referring to the old unis? The "gold" part was only an accent of the whole uni. But some seem to think it was the main colors. It was not. It was red/white, white/red that made up our home/road uniform. Those were the main colors and it would be great to bring back that classic color combo. But please, please!!!!! Give "gold" mustard a rest! It doesn't go well with Red. Except if you are a certain hamburger company - http://www.mcdonalds.com/
The Rockets can learn from the Astros. I'm not a fan of Drayton McLane but I'll give him credit, the Astros road jersey is one of the best in pro sports. Most importantly "Houston" is on the front.
This is what a Houston Rockets uniform is, enough said. Pajamas and whatever they come up with now will never compare to the old unis, Red and Gold b*tch!
Your comments reflect your intelligence. And if you think that we're going back to the old unis, you're wrong. So sorry. So, sad...
I have no idea what this can mean. Every team has a slightly different logo/look, but to require more manufacturing/design it sounds like a whole new "concept", which, from reading this thread, does not seem to be what the people on this board (uhummm...the true fans!) want. But no turning back now. While rare, there are occasions where something like this turns out perfect, much better than the "conservative"route would have been. But it is a much lower %, as the Rockets should well know with their current uni's. Cleveland's, while not the greatest ever, are simple and nice and much better than they could have been.
A lot of teams don't have the name of their city on their road uniforms, but we should not be one of those teams. We've had "Houston" on our front since the beginning (except for the PJ years ). Please bring it back.
So the cape is too expensive to sew onto the jersey, efficiently, 'eh? anyhow, glad to know it's just a first round of modifications, and that you are sticking with the "Rockets DNA," colorwise. If you make the players happy, I'm sure many of us will like it. Trend-setting just sounds scary to me, sometimes. btw: the basketball court is getting a big make-over to match the jersey/logo, right?
I can't believe someone actually referred to "Red China" in this post. Man I had a Cold War flashback.....whooooaaa. As far as the unis go....anything is better than what we have, which is currently the ugliest thing I have ever seen on a basketball team. It pisses me off that my Hakeem bobblehead is cursed to wear these stupid PJs for the rest of his life. What I want to see is the Rockets retiring the "Animals Have Rights Too" shirts on the Power Dancers. Did anyone else think the retro-unis of the Power dancers were pretty freaking hot?
