Star and Fuzzy's are probably the best versions of "Houston Pizza"........ie, marginal dough and too much toppings. I'm a Houston boy.......born and bred; and I love all that Houston has to offer in terms of ethnic foods. Houston Pizza is hardly ethnic though..........it's as Americanized as General Tso's chicken. I haven't been to all of the pizza places in Houston, but Dolce Vita is probably the best pizza I've had in H-town. Now I live in Calgary, and this city....bless it's heart....is a black hole for the foodie. But for all of the bad food here, it's so much easier to find a good pizza than it is in Houston. Then again, pizza is pretty subjective.......in America alone, we have several well recognized styles, so one man's crappy dough and overloaded toppings might be another man's nirvana. Here's a good story on the pizza I like: http://www.29-95.com/restaurants/story/truth-about-neapolitan-style-pizza All this being said though, I didn't grow up eating good (or what I perceive to be good) pizza, I grew up in Houston with parent's of very limited means..........so I can actually remember--more than once--in the past few years, taking a trip down memory lane and eating at the Pizza Inn Buffet. I think there may have been a bit of beer involved..........and I think I had to keep telling myself that this is not pizza...........it's "Houston Pizza," but for the most part, I think I enjoyed it.
Thats funny, I ate my first Pizza Inn at that same location on Sunday also. I would agree with you on it being ok. The place was pretty busy surprisingly and there were guys playing accordions in the back of the restaurant lol.
I haven't been inside one in probably 10 years, but LOL some of you must not get out much.I see them all over the place. According to the website there are 68 in Texas alone.
They're all over NC. Grew up going there. A really nice one I went to for my sons 3rd birthday. Their chocolate chip pizza is amazing as well as their thin crust pepperoni. Funny though. my wife went to a Pizza Inn off of Westheimer a few yrs ago and said their chocolate chip pizza there tasted more like pancake batter. You just got to find a good location.
