Well, you should be happy to know I got a recipe for it.

    Special Garlic Sauce
    1/2 cup margarine spread
    1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

    1. Combine ingredients in a small bowl.
    2. Microwave on 1/2 power for 20 seconds. Stir.
    Makes 1/2 cup.

    Cheese Sauce
    1/2 cup milk
    2 teaspoons cornstarch
    1/4 cup Cheez Whiz
2 teaspoon juice from canned jalapeƱos (nacho slices)

    1. Combine cornstarch with milk in a small bowl and stir until cornstarch has dissolved.
    2. Add Cheez Whiz and stir to combine. Microwave on high for 1 minute, then stir until smooth.
    3. Add juice from jalapeƱo slices, and stir.
    Makes 1/2 cup.

    Pizza Sauce
    1 10 3/4-ounce can of tomato puree
    1/4 cup water
    1 tablespoon sugar
    1 teaspoon olive oil
    1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon oregano
    1/8 teaspoon basil
    1/8 teaspoon thyme
    1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

    1. Combine ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil.
    2. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
    Makes 1 cup.

    Enjoy!

Apparetnly that garlic sauce recipe wasn't exactly right.

If you use Molly McButter fat free natural ROASTED GARLIC flavor sprinkles, whatever that is, it tastes better.

Every time a new PJ opens, they hire a crapload of drivers and other employees and strive to make sure the orders are fast, the pizzas are well made and the service is great. After the customer base is established, then comes a crapload of layoffs (lucky, I meet the "not-an-idiot" criteria and was never victim of this). There is less emphasis on service once a customer base is established, mainly because it is too costly. For example, it is impossible to keep drivers at a 2 delivery per take out max...which was the case at the start of opening a Papa John's...it's great for service, but too costly.

And as for PH dough, I didn't mean to say that there's no water in it. Let's put it this way: after handling PJ dough, you will be powdery; After touching any PH dough, you will be oily as hell. I've heard this, seen this, and an experienced this.

I don't live by a Papa Johns. I live by a Dominos, and a Pizza Hut.

    I find Gatti's a hell of a lot better.

I've also heard of Star Pizza. Apparently it was voted top pizza place in Houston from CitySearch, though I've never eaten there.

They have rules that keep the drivers with only 2 deliveries per run? Geeze, I used to take 4 or 5 on busy nights everytime I walked out of the store... Wimps! ;)

I believe you about the dough, I havent worked in a pizza place since 87 so it's entirely possible/likely that changes have been made to the way things are done..
It would also explain why PJ has better crusts imo...but PH still wins hands down because of the amount of toppings they include..

I wish there were more or any Godfathers still around...I loved their pizza...expensive as hell...but worth it.

Yeah Godfather's Pizza was great. They did seem to close down a bunch of stores in the past 7 years, but there are still two in operation in Houston.

I found these two locations on their site:
    5319 ALDINE MAIL
    HOUSTON TX 77039
    (281) 442-8024

    10001 WESTHEIMER, STE. 2124
    HOUSTON TX 77042
    (713) 789-9955

Agreed. I lived in New Jersey for five years when I was a teen. The only thing I really miss is the pizza. There was a little mom and pop pizza shop every mile or so. And they all made fantastic NY style pizza that they sold by the slice. I used to love walking home from junior high and stopping off for a slice or two with my friends.

I have a very hard time eating Dominos, etc ... because of my nostalgia for the pizza of my youth. The closest I get here is Sbarro's (in most malls) or Roman Delight (at the Galleria). Mario's Flying Pizza in Galveston is pretty tasty too.

    Star is excellent.

Their Wheat deep-dish(Or whatever it's called) crust is the best in Houston...hell, probably Texas.

They are located downtown - I have had them several times. I didn't see anything special about them though. I don't claim to be a pizza connoisseur though, I like Pizza Hut. :)

I'm no connoisseur either(I rarely eat any pizza other than Pizza Hut, Dominos, or Star), but Star has very good pizza. It also seems like it would be much healthier than Pizza Hut/Dominos.

what do you think about California Pizza Kitchen?

I never really liked it much, although I've only eaten there twice.
