:( But there are a lot of cases that patients come back from surgery without pain and are fully healthy (source : family member who had the same surgery as DMO).
I am aware of what back pain can do. It's one of the worse kind of pains. You can't even sleep well at night due to pain.

Maybe. We'll see. If they knew what they were doing, the trade might get voided, if they didn't, the trade goes through and maybe the Pistons rip off the Rockets.

It's still up in the air at this point.

You're speaking in generalities amongst non-professional athletes.. come back to reality and look at the history of NBA players who have had setbacks after back surgery, causing them to miss months.

Dwight Howard himself is a shell of his former self, but is still more of the exception. The difference between Dwight and Dmo is that Dwight was a legitimate heavy-minute-playing, former #1 draft pick, legitimate MVP candidate before his back surgery... DMo was not.

Buyers remorse by the impulsive SVG.

The Pistons knew about DMO's back prior to the trade.

This is true but competing in a professional sport and living day to day are different things. It's been an issue at Dmo's young age and will not improve as he ages while still competing professionally at the highest level causing stress on his back. Trade or no trade Morey wasn't giving this guy a huge deal on the off season.

Did your family members come back to play NBA basketball night-in/night-out?

DMo is pain free now... that is not the concern.

    So true.

First game back after the all-star break they chalk up a loss and everyone around them gets a win. Stan Van is all 'oh crap, what have I done, quick, void the trade'

Sux if it gets voided. That pick may have been useful.

Yes never reinjuring definitely with achilles. But for playing basketball? For guards? If the player loses speed or can't change directions fast then his carreer can be over or reduced to just being a bad backup.

The world is on pins/needles wondering which way you'll land...

How can one person be so damn full of himself/sure one day... and do a complete 180 after such obvious news is leaked?

That's one possibility, and if true, the deal might not be approved for that very reason. If Detroit thinks that DMo is good to go long term, the deal will be approved and it very well could end up as the worst deal Morey has ever done.

nope. But they weren't at DMO's young age either. Or had the level of nba doctors.

To chalk up someone with a back surgery like DMO : as done to ever play again , is as wrong as Bobby does who thinks that it's 100% given he will be alright.
You dont' know how invasive the surgery was or how many nerves were involved.

Correct... I said they're likely never the same, but if they make it back, their level of play maintains consistency (albeit diminished level).

Yeah because we get nothing in return in either trade :(. Both outcomes are equally as bad. :( Not one of them has a slight benefit compared to the other :( We end up with nothing at all even if it has little value :(

SVG talked to Drummond and Drummond reminded him of how easily he dominated DMo

Never said he would never play again... just that you always suspect not only a drop-off from their previous level, but further setbacks and missed time.

The fact that DMo's level prior to the injury was not one of a polished-NBA superstar, and he was still very much figuring things out, makes it all the more unlikely that he ever gets far "better" than what he was.

The fact they were able to get a first round pick for him now was a worth-while deal given those uncertainties.
