My take is that Howard was coming either way.
Smith on the other hand was not all about winning championships, he wanted to make big bucks and contend for a playoff spot.

    Title contender> Borderline playoff contender

    All speculation.
I think Josh Smith might be a good fit, but cheaper version of Smith, LMA, Love, Faried should be available if their teams keep on missing the playoffs or being first round exits

A definite missed opportunity by the Rockets.

glad that that's over...would have been a bad fit...would rather have lin and asik...not sure what pistons are doing...feel like there will be another move...even still they had some nice young pieces...adding smith does what? sells tickets? helps a playoff push?

True that. We need SHOOTERS around Howard. Hell Omri Casspi would be a better 4 in our system. That's how important spacing is.

Its obvious Morey knew that he could get a S+T done. After everything that has happened, you've got to trust his judgement.

Honestly Jsmoove to Det seems like a marriage of convenience. With Monroe and Drummond, Smith will play at the 3 and likely have a dip in shooting percentages. After souring expectations, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Det moving him at deadline or after this year.
And with Brandon Knight as their PG, you can almost prophesize Morey flipping Lin there.

Of course, the ultimate fantasy of Aldridge getting frustrated with two ball dominant guards and demanding a trade could end up with Asik getting flipped.

Have faith, have patience. Our FO plans YEARS in advance and won't take an unnecessary risk with this promising squad. I can say with confidence we won't have to endure the era of Ryan Bowen, Scott Padgett and Luther Head as the primary back-less stool contributors.

I think it's amazing that the guy that has actually built a championship team from nothing and a contender for the better part of a decade is considered the idiot while the guy that hasn't even come close to either is considered the genius.

Smith may or may not work out. We'll see.

And if the Pistons could have signed Dwight, instead of Josh Smith, they would have done so in a heartbeat. Smooth is paid near max, yet he's not a franchise player. That's the worst sort of contract, but that's what Detroit has to do in order to get star players.

It's not so much a mistake as it is a necessary fact of life, that some NBA cities are more desirable then others and that plays a heavy factor in free agency contracts.
