Yes, absolutely. There is no downside. 7 mil a year is nothing in the NBA now and Boban has shown enough promise.

They will let him go to sign Dedmon on the cheap.

    Just for next season?

Then that raises the question, if Pops chooses not to match such a relatively low salary, what does that say about Pop's take on Boban's promise for contributing to contenders -- "win now" with 36yr old Pau and jettison prospects

Y'all are too down on Nene. Probably weren't so negative about him until Maury signed him. LOL.

But yeah, I think this hurts the Spurms. Not sure what Detroit is trying to assemble on the interior. Yikes.

How does an offer sheet hurt you? Are you saying that's too much to match?

This guy looks like he has medical issues.. The heart is usually the size of the patient's fist. So he heart is the size of a giant catcher's mit.

Spurs are kicking the can and letting quality young players go because they're cheap.

So, it was too much to match, or Pops doesn't think Boban's worth developing versus other players?

Typically, when Spurs sign someone everyone says that player must be good, and Spurs/Pops know something no one else could see. But how does it work when Spurs choose not to match such a relatively cheap offer sheet...or is Boban just not worth that?

Isn't it the contract structure -- poison pill with 3rd year balloon payment like Lin/Asik?

    ^^^ is it?

Don't know the structure. What are the payments?

Or do they just like Dedmon better?

I thought they wanted to keep Boban...

It is difficult to gauge what the market might bear for Marjanovic.

Used sparingly in his first NBA season, Marjanovic was nevertheless a model of efficiency. His “player-efficiency rating” of 27.77 ranked third in the league behind Stephen Curry, the league’s back-to-back Most Valuable Player, and Durant.

In a perfect world, the Spurs would like to retain the big Serbian and continue to develop him.

“He’s a heck of a teammate,” coach Gregg Popovich said during the season. “He’s a good passer with a really nice touch. He understands how to play. He just needs to get used to the size of the players and the physicality of the NBA.”

    [...]

In any other offseason, the Spurs would feel confident about their chances of bringing back a player who averaged 5.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per game last season.

[San Antonio Express-News] Market for Spurs’ Boban difficult to judge
