I like this starting lineup the best:

Rafer" Skip 2 My Lou" Alston
    Tracy" T-Mac" McGrady
    Shane Battier
    Luis Scola
    Yao Ming

    This is instant championship contenders.

but that's the JVG offense. i thought he was referring to the adelman "movement" offense. why fire JVG if you want to play that way (pounding the ball into yao and passing it back out). that doesn't give us a lot of options.

tmac at the high post gives us an abundance of options to work with (or even scola at the high post b/c he's a gifted passer).

While Yao is posting up, the other players should be cutting or setting picks for each other. They should not just be standing around. I've said this many times already.

Going through Yao allows for more options than running Tmac at the high post.

yao is not very good at seeing the opposite side of the court for him to see any movement. when he gets doubled, most of the time, he simply passes back to the original passer b/c he doesn't want to turn it over. rarely does he be able to watch the entire court to see what is happening. therefore, it's tough going through yao and have all the movement that an adelman offense wants.

tmac is our best passer with the best court vision. yao's passing and vision are mediocre at best.

i simply stated tmac or scola at the high post as options. if yao is single covered, we do pound him the ball. i just hesitate running the offense through yao b/c he struggles v. double teams so much.

Its not about seeing the opposite side of the court. Its about seeing cutters as they come through the lane. I believe he is very capable of seeing this.

I've already addressed this. Please read my posts fully before you respond to them.

When Yao is posting up, he doesn't need great court vision to be effective. All he needs to be able to do is pass it to a cutter coming through the lane or back to the original passer.

Which is why we bring in more 3 point shooters. Neither Tmac nor Rafer (the players who generally feed Yao the ball) are consistent 3 point shooters. If we can bring in a pg who can consistently hit the 3, the offense will run MUCH more smoothly.

wekko, JVG tried running the offense through him (the first month of the 04-05 season was to make yao the centerpiece). he stopped trying after that.

adelman tried the first 2 months centering his style of offense around yao and failed miserably.

yao is at his best if you give him the ball, isolate him, and let him go to work if he only thinks about scoring. yao is not very good if he has too many responsibilities. notice his scoring #s increase as his playmaking responsibilities dropped drastically when he was put in the low post simply to score. no more high post, looking to pass... all adelman wants yao to do is get position, if you're open, when get the ball, score. don't do anything else.

Wecko Yao has physical limitations remember?

Stop living in a world of fantasy. You believe that Yao posting up will get a quality shot, or pass back to the guy on the perimeter to hit the 3. I don't know if you watched the games when T-MAC was out and we fell close to the bottom of the conference. I can't wait to hear what lame excuse you make..

It looks like you arent even reading my posts. Having efficient 3 pt shooters will make things easier. Before you reply, think about this. Its basic basketball.

Are you implying that JVG never centered the offense around Yao after 04-05 with no success?

And I'm sorry I don't know where you get that Adelman centered the offense around Yao the first two months of last season. It was centered around McGrady to start the season. The team took off after McGrady left with an injury and out of necessity the offense was centered around Yao with more low post. Talk about spinning things with McGrady rose colored glasses.

Scola said it best in his May 30th press conference in Buenos Aires where he basically states that although his minutes and stats increased, not having Yao hurt his game. That not even all the increased stats and minutes by the players that replaced Yao's stats could fill the void. And that everything was much easier with Yao in the lineup because there were more options in the offense which made the games much easier.

What I've been saying is that getting quality 3 pt shooters around Yao will make the offense run smooter.

You try to refute this statement by referring to the events that occurred this past season.

Guess what? We didnt have quality 3 pt shooters.

rafer makes 37% of his 3s. battier makes 35%+ of his 3s. tmac is not that efficient but he's never open b/c his man never leaves him anyways. we have good enough 3pt shooters. it's not simply that easy to pound in and kick out. have you seem yao handle double teams? it's not a pretty sight. so having 2 very good 3pt shooters (rafer's 2pt shooter is the problem) don't seem to help do they?

our offense needs another playmaker to help out tracy. tracy and rafer are the only playmakers of this team. adelman tried to make yao a playmaker by giving him more options to make plays and it failed.

i read your post. but you have to watch the games. we are one of the very good 3pt shooting teams. that isn't our problem. our problem is the lack of guys who can create their own shots so we do not depend on tracy and yao. in turn, it gives our stars more single coverage. that's the problem.

Wow...I'll defend T-Mac til the end. But given Prince and Billups playoff experience...too good to pass up. But then we definitely would have to trade Battier for someone too. Travis Outlaw and #13 from the Blazers? I kinda want Brandon Rush!

i got that from watching the game. yao was playing at the high post similar to chris webber's role. tmac was in the scoring role while yao was the playmaker. tmac was scoring and yao's assists were his highest in the first couple of weeks. but yao's turnovers and inability to pick up his type of offense (even yao admitted) forced adelman to pick up some of JVG's plays and you saw a tmac-oriented offense again.

yao said it himself. he had a tough time picking up the offense b/c adelman forced too many things onto him at once. his scoring was down to 20ppg. once he was put back in the low post ala JVG-style, his scoring went up.

what do you want scola to say? we don't need yao? our offense was just as efficient without yao. what we miss is when tmac goes to the bench, yao would provide offense.

it's like the spurs were winning without tony parker. you want them to say they don't miss tony parker?

obviously with yao we are a complete team.

Rafer is wildly inconsistent. He can go 1-6 one night and 3-4 the next night. And that comes out to 40%.

Battier does not make the entry pass to Yao. Therefore, he doesn't benefit from Yao's return pass.

Tmac isnt that good of a 3pt shooter.

No, we dont. Not if we expect to contend for a championship.

How do you know if it helps or not? He's never been surrounded by good 3 pt. shooters.

When the center is one of the main offensive threats, having inconsistent 3 pt shooters is a BIG problem.

um billups is a more consistent 3pt shooter? do you watch pistons games?? he's a better 2pt shooter, but you were referring to 3pt shooting. billups is just as erratic.

oh yea, battier shoots that well b/c of TMAC'S DOUBLE TEAMS. something you might miss is that tmac does bring his own share of double teams and also gives his teammates WIDE OPEN shots from all over the court.

tmac is not a good 3pt shooter. but his man never leaves him anyways so he rarely gets open 3pt shots anyways.

what we need is another playmaker like mike miller who can create his own shot. morey believes that. the organization believes that. they believe in this team. but again, getting that 3rd guy is hard. they're not gonna give tmac away like that b/c tmac has been our best player the past 4 years. to trade tmac, morey will make sure he gets back everything he needs to make us a complete team.

I havent seen too many piston games, but he would have to be pretty bad to be as erratic as Rafer. In the playoffs this year, he shot pretty well from the 3 pt line except for games 3&4 against philly.

Yao draws the double team more effectively than Tmac.

Getting 2 of the 4 piston stars is more than fair. I wouldn't be surprised if this deal doesn't happen though. I feel like we're getting the better end of the deal by a wide margin.

we are definetly getting the better end if its billups and hamilton

    Billups
    Hamilton
    Battier
    Scola
    Yao

virtually no weakness in that lineup

Great starting lineup. Depth at PG would be solved.

However, the depth behind Hamilton and Battier would still be an issue. Maybe that's what the expiring contracts can get. Or draft CDR or Rush

I agree with that reply, Billups and Rip would be ideal for Adelman's motion offense.

For depth at the SG/SF I would suggest trading Head+expiring contracts to try and move up in the draft to try and snag Rush/CDR, but if all else fails, Courtney Lee is one helluva shooter.
