Let me ask a question to those people who support this trade. Do you think this trade can seriously make us West contenders?

I mean Rafer is just as good as Billups when it comes to dishing the ball out to teammates, and when Rafer is scoring effienctly, he is a better PG than Billups. Prince cannot consistently score 20 points a game and you know that.

If this trade happens, we will have trouble scoring and regret trading him in the first place.

We just need to upgrade the bench, and if possible trade Battier for any servicable SG so T-Mac can go back to his primary SF position. Battier is a offensive liablity. We need someone who can do more than just stand at the corner 3 all game.

That's a valid concern. Obviously other moves would have to be made. It really comes down to if you believe a 2 can be acquired via trade with the assets we have (Battier, Head, Bobby's expiring, draft pick, future picks, Brooks, maybe Landry or Scola, Rafer). I think one can.

Rafer is mediocre. Nobody who shoots below .400 should be starting on any NBA team. Billups shoots better, he can penetrate better and he can distribute.

And don't forget the trademark offensive droughts the Rockets suffered through this season. I put a lot of that on Rafer's shoulders.

No we wont be contenders. If we get Rip and Prince/Billups and then make an additional trade for someone like Mike Miller, then we are contenders. We would be robbed if we TMac without Rip involved. But then again keep TMac and add Miller would make us contenders as well.

Now you are making no sense. Open man is an open man? Hello, RyBo anyone? And are u saying that we have not been exploiting Yao being doubled? Fact is we need good shooters who can take advantage of Yao and TMac being doubled. Right now we have none or very inconsistent shooters.

Every position is important. Billups WAS an all star in the east, never was one if he had played in the west.

In Adelman's system ball movement, smart play and cutting hard without the ball can make up for a lot of deficiencies on the part of an individual athlete. I forget what game it was but Matt Bullard said that "Easy layups under the basket" basically sum up Adelman's system. The Rockets don't need dead eye shooters to bomb away from the perimeter if Yao's being doubled. They can win by cutting hard to the basket and taking easy jumpers from 12 to 15 feet out.

As for how you've magically determined that Billups would never be an All Star in the West I have no idea. He's definitely one of the better PG's in the league, west or east conference.

Yes, an open man is an open man. Look at the 94 Rockets. We had Kenny, Max, Horry, Elie, and Cassell. If any of them were left open, they would knock down the three. Yao is nowhere near Olajuwon's level, but he does draw the double team consistently.

We have not been exploiting Yao's double teams simply because we dont have good 3 pt shooters. Right now, our most consister 3 pt shooter is probably Battier. Trading Tmac for 2 of the pistons would give us two more 3 pt shooters who are also all-star caliber players.

Are you really comparing the 3 pt shooting of Ryan Bowen to that of Chauncey Billups?

Of course Billups is better than RyBO. We don't necessarily need three point shooters, great mid range shooter like Rip can give teams lot of headaches. When TMac was hitting his mid ranger jumpers in the mini winning streak at the start of the season, we were giving teams all sort of headaches.

Anyways, these are all subjective arguments thats going no where. I personally want RIP involved in any trade for TMac. Whether it is RIP/Prince, Rip/Billups or Rip/Sheed. To me, as is evident from his career numbers, Billups is too inconsistent a shooter, Prince is a role player, a good one at that and I would trade Battier for him in a heartbeat, but he is still just a role player. Sheed is just too volatile and is in decline. Hence, my ideal trade is Rip and Prince.

haha you are making my case. Rip cuts hard and always comes out screens, and from 12 to 15 feet thats where Rip is lethal and usually automatic.

Sure Billups is one of the better PGs, but All Star? Whats the definition? top 4 in your conference? Well lets see, CP3, Nash, AI, Parker, Devon Williams, Brandon Roy. Need more?

The main difference is that Rip plays off the ball. With Tmac takes his jumper, he's controlling the ball the entire time. Everyone else is watching. With Rip, Yao could have the ball while Rip would be moving w/o the ball and getting himself open.

In other words, moving without the ball is a more efficient offense. Isn't that why Adelman was brought in?

You do know that IF we trade TMac, I want Rip to be in play. Not one of the Billups/Sheed/Prince combo. So I am not sure what point you are making.

As for Adelman's system, it is basically setup to mask a lack of great playmaker which TMac is one. See the Sacramento team of old? they didn't have anyone like Kobe, Lebron or TMac who can create for their teammates, they also didn't have a great post player like Yao. You structure your system around the players you have and not force the players to do something they are not capable of. Anyways, thats a whole different topic.

Vlad, Webber, and Brad miller could all pass well from the high post, and mike Bibby got like 8 assists while playing for grizz. Those kings teams were good and should have had a championship. I think Rip and billups would be fair.

Not really a system guy although I like what Adelman tries to do on offense. The thing about adelman is he's good enough to fit the system around the talent. Byron Scott who was under Adelman runs a different offense than rick did. Why? He has diferent personel. Sytems don't win, great coaching and players do. People can dream of these scenerios of hamilton coming off picks and stuff which is cool, but when u play against great defense, they knock u out of your system. How many times did those kings beat the spurs? Tracy is a better player than Rip regardless of the system. In the end u always want the best players.

I guess what's funny is people want to trade the only creator and the guy whom the team has had the least success when he's out. Amazing.

Well, Rafer averaged almost 7 in his first year with us. Doesn't mean he is a great playmaker in the mold of TMac and Kobe. And neither is Bibby. He is a great shooter though. Anyways, your post has nothing to do with what I pointed out. I never said that that Kings team sucked. They were just players that fit very well in Adelman's system. Rip would fit right in too. Its just that Adelman's system is geared to compensate for lack of great playmakers, who can score with the ball in their hands thats all. And Yao and TMac are those players. Again, not relevant to this thread.

Don't get me wrong, TMac is a great player and I don't think Rip can hold his jock. But IF we are forced to trade TMac to the Pistons, I wouldn't do it without Rip being on the table. Screw Billups/Sheed/Prince combo

Why would the Rox be forced to trade him when his contract expires the same yr as lebrons?

You were referring to the effectiveness of Tmac & Rip's midrange games (and making them seem similar). I pointed out that even though they both have midrange games, they play a different style. I believe Rip's complements Yao's game better.

Thats the point I was making.
