****** SPOILER ******** Okay, after seeing it a second time, I noticed something kind of interesting. All the original pirates save Jack Sparrow (CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow) were cursed. They were pissed that Bootstrap Turner sent off his piece of gold with his son, so they tied him to a cannon and sunk him in the water. Except, at that time, he was cursed just like all the rest, so he couldn't have drowned. I came to the conclusion that he must have sat down there, tied to the cannon, for years and years until the end when they finally lift the curse, and then he drowned rather quickly. Kind of depressing, isn't it?
******SPOILER*************** I think it may have been implied that his objection to what happened with Sparrow came after the mutiny, but before they had divied up the loot, and as such he was not yet cursed...you have to actually touch it and steal it for the curse to have effect. Didn't Barbosa say that none of them noticed the curse taking effect till after they'd spent the gold...maybe that was the curse.
*********** SPOILER AGAIN ************** Except that Sparrow became cursed immediately upon taking a piece out of the chest in the cave. So the curse must take effect immediately. Since Bootstrap had a piece to send off with his son, then it is a pretty safe assumption that he was cursed too. Really it is all speculation, and stuff that I think the director might not even have thought about. Unless...instead of staying tied to the cannon, the father managed to free himself from it and slowly walk to land....somewhere. But he stayed away from his son because he was ashamed of the curse. Could be a set up for the sequel. Who knows.
**SPOILER ONE MORE TIME********** But we don't know that bootstrap ever touched it...and that's what makes the curse take effect. We know that it's not just sharing in the idea of stealing it, because Sparrow wasn't cursed the first time, and he was leading the raide to steal it. Thet double crossed him after they'd found it, so it must be that you have yo physically tough it while stealing it,,,and it could be supposed that Bootstrap's objection/murder preceded any chance to touch it.
When Bootstrap mailed it, he mailed it knowing full well about the curse...so he would have taken steps to prevent getting it, I suppose. Wrap it in cloth, etc.
**********spoiler shiznit************* There's going to be a sequel, maybe boot strap will make a cameo. Here's my thoughts, it's been 10 years since that happened. I'd think that he must have found a way to get loose of the cannon in that time. So, either he drowned after the curse was lifted, or he is already safe and getting ready to make an appearence. Though, what would Boot Strap want to do besides see his son. That doesn't make for a compelling Pirate flick.
This movie rocked. Damn it was a much better film than I first thought it was going to be. I didnt see much in the trailers, but I came and read all the reviews of the movie on CC.net and decided to go and see it. Glad i did.
*********** LAST TIME I POST SPOILERS **************** What makes you think he mailed it? His son was floating on a plank of wood as the Black Pearl was sailing away, so I think it safe to assume that the son was on board the Black Pearl with the rest of the pirates. In the movie they said he sent off his son with the gold, not that he sent the gold off to his son. And would this mail you speak of be the Pirate Express? Doesn't seem like the pirates would have a whole lot of opportunity to send letters, what with all the pillaging they did of all the actual cities.
Great, great pirate flick. It reminded me of some of the old '30's, '40's pirate movies, but without the cheesy little models as the ships. Like most of you, I was really surprised at just how good it was. Depp and Rush were fantastic. Bloom cast off most of his LOTR persona... I liked him. The chick was HOT. This is another example of what we have to look forward to with the technology that's here. Waterloo, anyone??
Speaking of that chick...what's her name? I believe i saw her in a number of other movies....I watched one with my GF, i think it was called Love and Basketball, or something like that. ANd she was in it... am i right?
Oh, God! Don't tease me... Others I'd like to see... Lot's of stuff on the Roman wars, especially stuff like Ceaser and Pompey, Maius and Sulla, etc. The Punic War, Hannibal would be brilliant. Alexander the Great...Other things, like The Fall of Constantinople would be spectacular... Ivanhoe and Crusade stuff could be well done now. the Arthurian legend could be well served by the new effect, suppoe a remake of the Mary Stewart tirilogy...They are currently making one of the Patrick O'Brien AUbrey series, but I would see all of them...I could go on... They might even find a way to do Foucault's Pendulum.
**************SPOILER************** i think it's obvious that bootstraps was cursed, or else the pirates wouldn't need Will Turner's blood. I also think Bootstraps was probably just stuck in the ocean.
i saw it last night, it's a great family movie, now days it's hard to find a movie like this which u and ur kids will both enjoy. i really liked it.
Unfortunately, I heard that Vin Diesel is going to be Hannibal in one of his next movies (nothing official, just a possibility). I can see it now, He's going to walk one of those war elephants off a cliff and use some plundered persian rugs as a parachute, float into the middle of Rome, and fight one on one with Julias Caesar(that's just a guess). There are 2 Alexander the Great movies being made btw.
this is one sequel im really looking forward to. i mean cmon, there havent been any good pirate movies out since like the goonies, and that wasnt even a pirate movie until the end. beats another cop movie
