I actually left in the middle to go make out in the parking lot. It wasn't that good so after Jack Sparrow saved the girl with the tight dress I went out to go loosen my date's bra.
I really wanted to see this one but was kinda hesitant to do so. I figured it'd be a disappointment. Thanks for the ref.! Hopefully I'll make it out this week!
Good movie, Worth seeing just for Depp's performance. oh.. and Miss Knightley was very becoming indeed.
Just got back from the movie. It was pretty damn good. It had humor, action, an awesome Johnny Depp, some characterization, clever twists, and decent dialogue. Depp SHOULD be nominated for something for this performance (which can only be described as his crazy character from Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas meets Don Juan DeMarco). Too bad the Academy will ignore him. Orlando Bloom was serviceable as William (although it felt like he was channeling Legolas a little too much), and Ms. Knightley was actually pretty good in her role. However, the stars of the movie were definitely Geoffrey Rush and Depp. Both move this movie a joy to watch. One thing I will say, though: For my money, Cutthroat Island had 3 times the action of PotC. However, Pirates was definitely the better movie.
Awsome, awsome flick! Johnny Depp is freakin awsome in this movie, really belw me away how well he pulled this off. I wasn't expecting much from this movie but I think this is the sleeper of the summer.
I really liked it. Maybe a little long for the ADD set, but one of the few really good summer movies. Depp was fantastic. His entrance in the movie (small spoiler) when we see just his windswept visage, eyes fixed ahead, no expression, ocean in the background, and we know he's on a ship; then we pan back and he's on a very small vessel, in the crow's nest; the ship is taking on water, he steps onto dry land just as the ship goes under....priceless.
By the way. Been playing the video game. It's unlike the movie in plot, but exactly like it in content. It's hard as hell to learn. But enjoyable once you do figure it out. I'd give it a B- as far as games go. Could have been better. But it's been interesting.
... Oh, and in case you've never been on the actual Pirates of the Caribbean ride (i.e. you live under a rock), most of the "scenes" displayed on the ride are depicted in the movie, including the catchy "It's a Pirate's Life For Me" song.
To those who haven't seen it yet, DON'T READ THIS POST (SPOILER!) For those who have, I have just one complaint about the movie: How could Jack Sparrow have cut his hand to get blood on the coin, when he was really a "ghost" at the time? Other than that one thing, I though it was an awesome movie. And man, that chick really made it worth the money.
Spoiler: It seems that every "dead" pirate had to do the same thing. So I guess they all would have cut themselves and leaked some fluid on the coins... Even tho' they can't bleed. I think it's a leap that you have to make. I missed that scene. So if Jack was bleeding red that would be unusual. Because he was already dead. But if he just leaked some fluid on the coin that might be pretty normal given that all the other pirates had to do the same thing.
Disney is also making a Haunted Mansion movie based on that ride...with Eddie Murphy, as I understand it.
Remember when Keira Knightley stabs Barbosa on the ship, there is blood on the knife when she pulls it out. As long as you are not in the moonlight, I think you still have all your **** working, you just can't die, taste, feel, or smell.
I actually watched the movie twice in one day. I loved it. They did a great job of blending the comedy in with the movie so it wasn't the usual, out of place, mandatory, comic relief scenes. The sappy romance wasn't overdone, and it had a really nice balance as far as containing all the elements one could want in a Pirate adventure. One thing I heard from Depp, was that he based his Pirate character heavily on Keith Richards. After hearing that I could totally see it. Traditionally pirate movies have faired poorly at the box office recently. The reason is that they just weren't good. This movie shows that it can be successful if it's done well.
I can be a little tough to please with the flicks, but I was very impressed with this one. Depp makes the movie, IMO. Guy was perfect. Keira is a very nice girl. Had a couple of stupid one-liners, but pretty easy to look past that--had a couple of really GOOD one-liners, too (see Rocketman95's post). I'd see it again...really enjoyed it.
