I know I am back on because I watched the Cubs game yesterday just to root against them.

Oliver Perez may have the best changeup in baseball.

Cards pounding the Padres while the Rockies have an early lead against the Giants. I don't think either of those two teams have the talent to stay in this race. I fear the Marlins.

Did you know... that the Astros actually dominated the Marlins this year, winning 4 out of 6?

Of course, the last game we beat them was basically the last time this team looked "elite" for awhile...

Then, Oswalt lost to Beckett, then the Reds swept 4 from them, then they were awful awful awful on offense for 2 months, then Jimy got fired, Pettite had surgery, etc. etc. etc.

    And now we're here...

Oliver Perez- 191 k's in 157 innings. That is comparable to Jason Schmidt. He has a sick slider.

Agreed... how good would Jason Bay and Olvier Perez look on the San Diego Padres right now?

Since they built that new ballpark (see other thread for more debate on this)... its basically neutralized the effect that Brian Giles has had for them (only 19 HR's... and he was averging like 35+ a year in Pittsburgh... and he's in his prime).

Meanhwile, Jason Bay has probably had BETTER year than Giles by himself (.296 with 20 HR's), he'll win the ROY... and combine that with Perez's stellar year... the Padres are probably going to regret that trade unless Giles wins the MVP sometime for them.

The Marlins and Cubs play 6 of their next 9 against each other.
The Giants play the Rockies and the Diamondbacks, which should be good for them, but they are losing to the Rockies.
The Padres play the Rockies also, but play the Cardinals.

The Astros play the Pirates and the Reds.

After the next 9 games, the Stros can not be more than 1 game out and preferably should be 1 or more games up.

I hope Garner not being in the dugout doesn't bring us out of the zone.

He left during the first game of the Cubs series with back spasms. I hope he gets better, but Mike Lamb has been a huge part of this winning streak. Making that huge diving catch in Chicago and starting key double plays to get us out of jams. I just noticed that he has more HR's than Ensberg. I don't know when Morgan will be back, but Lamb has been more than sufficient. More good news......
The Giants and Padres lose again tonight! We're now 1.5 games out of second place. It's very possible that we could leap over 3 teams in 3 games. I don't want to think about it too much though. I wonder when the Cubs and Marlins will make up their game(s) . Lets go Rocket!

Why is the game blocked out Sunday??? The best time to have a blocked out game is when your team is in a wild card race
