Damn Lidge looked great! Good move Astros, I feel alout better with Lidge closing games. He just seems more confident in his stuff - that slider is wicked bad.

    Someone said it before...................

Lidge has that wicked slider. Tailor made pitch for a closer. Dotel just had the heater, which was subject to nights when he was or was not accurate.

I have full confidence in Lidge.

Boys, the pressure in the Astros clubhouse just rose 10 notches. As Hunsicker said, this season is it!!!! Lets see if Jimy can get this team in gear!!!

    All right!!!

Big day for the Houston Astros. First, they pull off a deal for a first-rate centerfielder in Carlos Beltran, a guy that before this week I never thought for a second we had a shot at.

Now, we get a clutch job out of Clemens and Ensberg and pull out a 3-2 win to take three out of four from the pesky Pirates.

And finally, I get my 1000th post!!!

I think I must have set some kind of record. It took me 2 years, 10 months to reach the 1000-post plateau. It feels pretty good.

    Go Astros!!

    WOOOHOOO !!

I am not sure about the Beltran trade, but this is EXACTLY why I wanted Lidge as the closer.

He has a variety of pitches, and a wicked slider......this is why I have been pining for him to close.

    He just exudes confidence......

Wow.... go away for the day, and its a whole new world.

You guys saw the Lidge slider tonight... but the hitters obviously didn't.

Even people who had never watched that much baseball were saying "woah... that pitch moved like crazy."

I knew Brad would be jacked up for this opportunity... I feel an Eric Gagne type love-fest comin from the media in the next few days after he's made a few more hitters look absolutely silly with that slider.

That will be his ultimate pitch now... because honestly, the hitters didn't come close to it, even though they were probably expecting it, and even though it was in the strike zone. That's how good that pitch is... he could throw it all game if he wanted.

So true. Even Edgar Martinez, one of the better hitters of this era, said Lidge's slider is the best has EVER seen
