Surprised there is not a thread on this.... It is Pink Floyd week on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, due to the re-release of all of their classic albums this week. On Monday, The Shins did a cover of "Breathe", and last night Roger Waters played on stage with the Foo Fighters. Here is a link to the boxed set, for which they are calling "The Discovery Box Set" http://www.amazon.com/Discovery-Stu...ACA6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317231881&sr=8-1 Here is the link to his interview with Roger Waters: http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/video/roger-waters-9-27-11/1358851#.ToNVNZGnjjg.facebook The new Rolling Stone is dedicated to them as well. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/n...l-tour-to-american-baseball-stadiums-20110928 Roger stated that they are bringing the tour back to the US again!!!! Truly the most amazing band of all time....
No matter how many times I listen to Dark Side of the Moon, it never gets old. Def. my favorite band of all-time.
They released three albums that could qualify as a masterpiece Dark Side of the Moon The Wall Wish You Were Here Dark Side is as close to perfect as an album can get. Momentary Lapse of reason was pretty good also, just not near the levels of the big 3. Own all thier Cd's, even though i'm not much of a fan of their earlier stuff, they are 1 and 1a with Tom Petty as my favorite bands ever.
You're like the Bizarro CrazyDave. I personally like Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Meddle, and Animals and wouldn't put MLoR in a top anything list. I like the other three you mentioned, too, of course, but prefer the older stuff.
Piper is certainly the best of their early work, I'm just not a fan of psychdelic rock in general. Different strokes i guess.
MLoR is like a Yanni album. The Division Bell is even more of a bore - a complete snoozer. The remainder of their work is nothing more than brain slop for substance abusers.
Now you're talking! 'Animals' is where it's at. My personal favorite PF studio album. In order, I'd put 'em like this: 1. Animals 2. Dark Side of the Moon 3. The Wall 4. Wish You Were Here 5. Meddle 6. The Final Cut 7. Obscured by Clouds 8. Momentary Lapse of Reason 9. Atom Heart Mother 10. Ummagumma Try as I might, I just cannot get into the Syd Barrett era stuff. Individual songs are okay, but as an album, I can't deal with it.
Nick Mason should do his own Pink Floyd tour without Roger and David. Bah...I think I'll just stick with Australian Pink Floyd at this point. I don't even care who's playing it as long as it sounds as good and the stage show is good.
My ranking of Pink Floyd studio albums based on my personal preference: 1 - Animals 2 - Dark Side of the Moon 3 - The Wall 4 - Meddle 5 - Wish You Were Here 6 - The Final Cut 7 - Obscured by Clouds 8 - Piper at the Gates of Dawn 9 - The Division Bell 10 - Ummagumma (mainly for the live part) 11 - A Saucer Full of Secrets 12 - A Momentary Lapse of Reason 13 - Atom Heart Mother 14 - More

hold up dawg - your ranking is based on your personal preference? you got alot of nerve there to be ranking albums based on your own opinions of them! here is mine 1 - meddle - fearless is my favorite floyd song and pillow of winds is right up there too. 2 - animals 3 - dark side of the moon 4 - piper at the gates of dawn - about 20 years ago i dropped acid at about midnight and watched big top pee wee (the talking pig was literally tripping me out) then listened to this in my room in the dark at about 4 AM while peaking. psychedelic music in the truest sense. 5 - atom heart mother - fat old sun, anyone?
I must be the rare Syd fan. 1 - Meddle 2 - Wish You Were Here 3 - Dark Side of the Moon 4 - The Wall 5 - Animals 6 - Piper at the Gates of Dawn 7 - Obscured by Clouds 8 - Ummagumma 9 - A Saucerful of Secrets 10 - Atom Heart Mother
I'm surprised to hear people say they like Animals the best. Animals has always been my favorite since it first came out. 1977 and I was a sophomore in High school, good times. I wish I could turn back the clock and do it all over again. I still have all those records on vinyl.
That's not possible. The rays of light on the right would not show straight if there was a break in the prism. PHAILoshop.
