They have been really, really good. It looks like this team might have arrived a little early. I figured they would be scrappy and competitive this year under Pierce and they would really take off over the next two or three years as Pierce brings in some serious talent.
SHSU streak now at 12 straight after sweeping Northwestern State over the weekend. Next up is 3 at Lamar this weekend. #20 in Collegiate Baseball #24 in Baseball America
I promise you I'm not trying to upstage SHSU with my BU updates...I went to Coach Skeeter's baseball camps as a kid at SHSU for 3 different summers. Having said that: Baylor has won 15 straight games now. They've moved up to #8 in the nation in RPI...they're #15 in the NCBWA poll....#5 in the Collegiate Baseball poll....#14 in Baseball America...and #8 in USA Today Coaches Poll.
Up for regionals! Texas School Action: Rice Regional Sam beat Arkansas Rice plays PVAMU tonight Baylor Regional DBU beat UT-Arlington Baylor plays Oral Roberts tonight Texas A&M Regional Mississippi beat TCU A&M plays Dayton tonight
Sam fell just short against the Hogs today, actually. They had a 4-2 lead late in the game, but they rode starter Caleb Smith a little too long, fell behind and lost 5-4.
Two more interesting scores involving Texas teams. Rice needed a solo homer from Michael Fuda in the 7th to sneak past PV 3-2. There's just something about SWAC teams against Rice in opening games. In Waco, Baylor fell to Oral Roberts 4-2.
Hopefully they'll recover and take out PV today. They can beat Arkansas and Rice. Just need to get there.
PV is giving Sam all they can handle today. They had a 1-0 lead until the Kats put up three in the fifth inning to make it 3-1. In the 7th, the Panthers fought back and got a run to make it 3-2, but missed a chance to get more than that when they hit into a DP with the bases loaded and one out. As I type, the Bearkats push a run across to make it 4-2.
Sam wins 4-2, but PV put up a fight. Baylor is up 7-5 (T7) in an elimination game against UTA. Miami is the first 1-seed to get eliminated.
WAY TO GO BEARKATS! See ya Rice. I don't want to hear any fluke talk either as this is the 2nd time Sam has beaten Rice this year. We'll take Ar Kansas...I hope. GO BEARKATS
Nope, no fluke talk. Sam is a good team and great pitching/no hitting has been the story for Rice this season. Gotta find some bats for next year. Oh well
I can only assume that Jacoby Jones is on Stony Brook and he muffed a fly ball that allowed LSU to tie it.
