Cool. It's beautiful country and no matter what paper offers me a job, I'll stay right here....unless the AJC comes calling.
i used to live in san sebastian...it is a great place to live from oct - march it does rain quite a bit.. the female scenery isnt the greatest though.. it is a small town that can tend to feel isolated ..maybe i was there too long..i was homesick for crappy american food.. wonderful place another that comes to mind for its beauty is interlaken switzerland no pics remember though at the end of the day its not the place its you..
Re: Spain - In the Basque country I really prefer Bilbao. It just feels like a working city where everyone is doing something. The casco viejo is cool and not at all touristed-out. And I have to say that Salamanca isn't my fave in that area, either. I really like León. There are far fewer Americans there and the nightlife, the bar scene, is concentrated and unique. I would also recommend Girona for the same reasons. It's in Catalunya well within sight of the amazing Pyrenees. But, all in all, Madrid is my favorite city in Spain, maybe even in Europe, and definitely a place I could and would live. I'm not entirely sure why I love it so much because it's not especially beautiful. I guess it just has a very particular energy. So there's my contribution - Madrid. Y no te olvides que madrileñas son guapisimas. Vale, vale.
I took almost the exact same picture (just better ) a few weeks ago. The pilot took a few extra turns so that people could take pictures - even the stewardesses had their cameras out. Cape Town is great. Went down to Cape Point as well. When you are in Naples, go to Capri - one of the most beautiful places I have seen.
the places in which i've lived: antigua guatemala - 6 months. vancouver british columbia canada - 12 years (currently living here). calgary alberta canada (where i go to university). and of course between vancouver and banff (through where i drive a few times a year) are the Canadian Rockies: man, our world is beautiful. i'd love to go to live in germany for a year...preferably south eastern - near austria and switzerland. any suggestions?
Yes, Munich, where I live right now. http://www.cnn.com/TRAVEL/DESTINATIONS/9705/beergardens.germany/
Yeah, Cape Point is beautiful, but as I am scared of heights I do not think I will go back. The view from Table Mountain is gorgeous as well. I lived in CT for 4 years and JoBurg for 3 (cape town is much better). I would definitely love to move back.
SJC...how far of a drive is it from Munich to the alps in switzerland (it's been a dream of mine to snowboard on the alps)? also how far to dusseldorf (that's where i have lots of relatives...but wouldn't want to live there, just visit).
oh, and thanks for all the pics, it was one of the ideas i had in mind, but now it is definately a front runner. one more thing though, how much is it for typical bachelor living accomodations, nothing fancy, but enough to live comfortably, since i plan on being in Germany for at least a year.
santiago de compostela in spain is really nice personally i love the town in Ireland... especially Galway, Wexford
To Switzerland, I am not sure, but closest snowboarding from Munich is probably 45 min. or so (during the winter, there are also some areas where you can ski/snowboard year-round). There are also many beautiful lakes near München where you can go during the summer. To Düsseldorf, it would be a longer drive...probably 4 1/2 to 5 hours, but there are also many relatively inexpensive flights between the two cities. Rents are relatively expensive if you want to live in the cool areas of Munich (called Schwabing/Maxvorstadt, in the center). Rent is definitely more expensive than in Houston, but not as expensive as, e.g., London or Tokyo or New York. You would probably pay about € 1,000-1,300 for a 90 m2 flat (2-3 rooms) per month. I'll leave it to someone else to convert this to whatever weird units you Americans use . If you are ok with something smaller, you could probably get away with € 400-500 a month, and if you are a student and stay in a student dorm, it will be even less (probably € 200-300 a month). By the way, everything in the pictures I posted except the football stadium and the Nymphenburg Castle is easily within walking distance from where I live. Munich is really great, right now the weather is warm and pleasant and everyone seems to sit outside all day, it has kind of an Italian feel to it.
