    born cute, or are just cute in general?

    can't really 'evolve' cute, though we can manipulate their 'cute' characteristics... aka selective breeding (like house pets for example)

    but i don't think pandas self evolved into these 'cute' creatures, then again, i don't find them cute at all, they're bears after all, i can't even fathom the amount of stupidity that one must have to think "lets jump into the pit with the pandas", then soon followed by news headlines "chinese panda, LingLing, mauled a tourist"

    I don't mean the pandas somehow deliberately evolved into being cute but they happened to have a particular trait that has proven to aid their survival by being cute. Whereas if pandas wheren't considered so cute they might be extinct.

    There's been some recent study that human behavior has had an impact on several species driving evolution of particular traits. For example studies have shown that certain species of elk have smaller horns since elk with larger horns are heavily hunted. Also there was a study regarding domestication using wild foxes and within a few generations of just being in the presence of humans, not bred selectively, the foxes developed features resembling domestic dogs and also became cuter.

    this is only remotely related to this thread (it has animals, but their behavior isn't the funny part)...sorry in advance if you don't like it, but when my professor showed it to us on the first day of class, everyone in the room was laughing his/her arse off..
