The Challenge: to put together the greatest NBA team. Hopefully we can have a tournament of the best 8 teams to see who's the best! The Rules: 1. You can only pick 1 player off of the 50 greatest players of all-time list. 2. If you pick 1 of the 50 greatest players, you must then pick at least 2 players that were never an all star. 3. You must pick at least 1 player that was never an all-star. [note this pick will count as 1 of the 2 you must have if you pick a 50 great, hof, etc]. 4. You can only pick 1 player drafted from 1997 till present. 5. If you pick any player drafted from 1997 till present that has averaged at least 25 points or more in a season, or averaged 20 points and 10 boards, you must then pick 2 players that were never an all-star: the kobe, wade, duncan, yao, et al, rule. 6. You can only pick 1 hall of fame player that got in as a player. 7. If you pick any player that's in the hall of fame (as a player), you must pick 2 players that were never an all-star. 9. If you pick any player that went to 5 or more all-star games, you must pick 2 players who never went to an all star game - the gary payton reggie miller rule! 8. You must pick 1 player from the 2nd round and beyond. 9. You must pick at least 1 white player! 10. If you don't pick any hof or 5 time all-star or rule 5 player, then you don't have to follow any of the 3,4, and 8. Formatting Note: Please put () to indicate player type. If you pick Drazen Petrovic who BY THE WAY is in the hall of fame, then he will be a double pick for you. Thus you need only to pick 1 more non all star to satisfy the hall of fame rule. He would be then (rule 6 & one of the non-allstar picks). In effect then, you could have drazen petrovic with another Top 50 player in this configuration. Here you have satisfied all requirements because you need 4 non-allstars with Oneal and Pet. PG: Derek Harper (non-allstar) SG: Drazen Petrovic (non-allstar, hofer, 2nd round and beyond) SF: Robert Horry (non-allstar) pf: Sam Perkins (non-allstar) c: Shaq O'neal (Top 50 Player) Helpful Links: link 1 Never All-Stars Top 50 Players Hall of Fame Another non-allstar list
My team: Point Guard: Mark Price, [White Guy rule] Shooting Guard:Nate Mcmillian [Non-Allstar Rule] Small Forward: Luol Deng [1997 to Present Player] Power Forward: Rick Mahorn [Non-All-star rule] The Center: Nate Thurman [HoF, Top 50 Player]
I think I did this right... the rule set is a bit confusing... Sabonis (never all-star, white) Best Year: Pre NBA, but in NBA: 16 ppg, 10 rpg, 3 apg Magic (HOFer) Best year: 24 ppg, 6 rpg, 12 apg, Alvin Robertson (4 time all-star) Best year: 19.5 ppg, 6 rpg, 6.8 apg, 3 spg Dan Roundfield (2nd round) Best Year: 19 ppg, 11.4 rpg, 3 apg Purvis Short (never all-star) Best Year: 28 ppg, 5 rpg, 3 apg
Hakeem Olajuwon (50 great) Marcus Camby (Never All Star) Detlef Schrempf (White) Michael Finley Cuttino Mobley (2nd round, Never All Star) Hope I did it right.
Sabonis is a brilliant pick rimrocker. He is probably the best player to never make the all star game.
PG: Rod Strickland (non allstar) SG: Manu Ginobli (white, 2nd round) SF: Eddie Johnson (non allstar) PF: Shawn Marion C: Hakeem Olajuwon (top 50) i think this is right heres another possible PG: Nick Van Exel (2nd round) SG: Jimmy Jackson (non allstar) SF: Eddie Johnson (non allstar) PF: Pau Gasol (white) C: Hakeem Olajuwon (top 50)
(stats from the season i want to use of their's) PG: Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf (non-All Star): 19 ppg, 7 apg, 2 rpg, 1 spg, 2 3ptr/gm SG: Kevin Martin (non-All Star, 1997-present): 20 ppg, 2 apg, 4 rpg, 1 spg, 1.5 3 ptr/gm SF: Alex English (HoF, 2nd rndr): 28 ppg, 5 apg, 7 rpg, 1.5 spg, 1.5 bpg PF: Kevin Garnett: 24 ppg, 5 apg, 14 rpg, 1.5 spg, 2.2 bpg C: Bill Laimbeer (white guy, 3rd rndr): 17 ppg, 2 apg, 13 rpg, 1 spg, 1 bpg
I am glad to see some people taking the challenge! I know it was a bit much on the rules side. The hard part about this challenge is trying to balance out the scoring from front court to back court. Just like in real life, there are very few truly great centers that you can get that isn't a hof, 5 time allstar, or top 50 player all time. Then if you want a hall of fame type back court, you have to settle for a subpar center, and/or scoring. The loop hole in this rule set is 1997 to present player. You can find some really good ones: pau gasol was a great pick, being that he is a 20 pt 9.8 rb player. Just under the mark which would have made him have to get 2 more non- allstar players! I hope more people try this out. It is very challenging!
i am going to give rule #10 a shot (best seasons) C: Brad Miller (15.6 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 3.9 apg, 52% fg, 81% ft) (white player) PF: Rashard Lewis (22.4 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 46% fg, 84% ft) SF: Jimmy Jackson (25.7 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 47% fg, 80% ft) SG: Glen Rice (26.8 ppg, 4 rpg, 48% fg, 47% 3fg, 87% ft) PG: Kevin Johnson (22.5 ppg, 11.4 apg, 50% fg, 84% ft)
AstroRocket, you have no assist man, you have a whole lot of shoooooottterrrs though! I don't know if I would have put Camby with Hakeem, seems a little redundant. This team seems a little slow. A team with a speedy point guard and wingmen will put hakeem and co. in foul trouble quick!
You can't have Kevin Garnett AND Alex English on the same team. Garnett has been to 5 or more all-star games and English is HoFer, thus you would have to have 4 non-allstar players, which is impossible. Good try though.
ah..rules a little unclear I guess. I thought that when you were talking about guys who could double-count for categories...you could also double-count non All Stars for stuff like this. got it.. will make a new one
Here is another try: PG: Fat Lever [Regular Player] SG: Ice Man George Gervin [Hofer, 3rd rounder] SF: Toni Kukoc [non-allstar] PF: Dwight Howard [non-allstar 1997-present] c: Tom Chambers [White Guy] This is a cool team!
legal version--hopefully (stats from the season i want to use of their's) PG: Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf (non-All Star): 19 ppg, 7 apg, 2 rpg, 1 spg, 2 3ptr/gm SG: Kevin Martin (non-All Star, 1997-present): 20 ppg, 2 apg, 4 rpg, 1 spg, 1.5 3 ptr/gm SF: Alex English (HoF, 2nd rndr): 28 ppg, 5 apg, 7 rpg, 1.5 spg, 1.5 bpg PF: Horace Grant: 15 ppg, 3 apg, 11 rpg, 3 ast, 1 spg, 1 bpg C: Bill Laimbeer (white guy, 3rd rndr): 17 ppg, 2 apg, 13 rpg, 1 spg, 1 bpg
VERY INTERESTING that nobody's picked Jordan yet! How can the best player of all-time not be the best guy to build a team around? HO HO HO!
C - Rony Seikaly (non-all star, white) PF - Anthony Mason (all star, 2nd and beyond, rn3 88) SF- Peja Stojakovic (non-allstar) SG- Michael Jordan (Top 50) PG- Mookie Blaylock(all star, but less than 5 times - 1, 94) Killer back court. But Peja has been to 3 all-star games! I think you switched Mason and Peja in your mind. Mason hasn't been to an all-star game. So this team satisfied the rules!
Hey, at least it would crush Pocket Rocket's team (the last one). Okay, how about this one. Hakeem Olajuwon (HOF/50) Robert Horry (No AS) Matt Bullard (White/No AS) Vernon Maxwell (No AS/2nd round) Steve Francis That's a GREAT team.
