Would make more sense if it was more Texans instead of 49ers

That photochop wasn't meant to be a walk down memory lane but a unique Houston way of mocking Schaub.

Sorry for dredging up painful memories. I'm glad I didn't do anything with the Cougars NC State championship game or the collapse in Buffalo.

I guess Schaub actually does fit with the overall pattern of Houston Sports. :(

That was the beginning of the end for Lidge as an Astros...he was not the same after that.

Plus because of that Oswalt had to pitch game 6 if the NLCS instead of Game 1 of the World Series

True, but we had to use Roy instead of starting him Game 1.

Qualls' HR was similar the year before. We had to use Clemens on short rest after the series was extended.

I think that was Dan Miceli that gave up the Game 6 walkoff to Jim Edmonds in 2004. I remember Miceli and Oswalt (I think he was 2 days rest at that point) were both warming up to come in to pitch relief, Garner went with Miceli. I really think Roy could've closed it out. I think that '04 team with Kent and Beltran was better than the '05 team that made the series, if only we could've made it through that year...dang.

It was Miceli, but not quite the same scenario, because the Astros/Cards were tied in 2004 Game 6, as opposed to the 2-run lead we had in the Pujols game. I think Garner was hoping to save Oswalt for a later situation in which he actually could've closed it out.

The biggest "what if" I have from that 2004 Game 6 was Berkman's strikeout in the 9th against Isringhausen. Bagwell had just come through with a clutch single to tie the game, the winning run (Beltran) was in scoring position, and Izzy was on the ropes... Lance just didn't get it done.

Also, in terms of comparing 2004 to 2005, it's also worth noting that the 2004 Red Sox were much better (in my opinion, at least) than the 2005 White Sox. So even if the Astros were a better offensive club in 2004, it may not have necessarily given us a better shot to win.

    Good point..I agree.

I do think the 2004 squad was better....I think the 98 squad was the best they ever had.

The 98 team was probably the worst Astros postseason. 102 wins, The Unit, great offense, only to lose in the 1st round. Brown was great, but the bats choked.

Great point about Miceli! "If" we went to Oswalt. The funny thing is the commentator mentioned that he wasn't even throwing strikes in his warmups. Thats a bad omen.

Go to 2:22:30 to see Bagwells Clutch Single (That was really clutch 2 outs as well)

Go to 3:00:00 to see Edmonds walk off home run. :(

I remember Beltran just single handedly just owned the braves in NLDS. That was a Magical NLDS run.

if there was ever an astros team that should have won the world series it was 2004.. beltran was raking, lidge was lights out, kent was a monster, bagwell was healthy, prime berkman, biggio leading off for that murderers row, with the best defensve SS in the game.. if only pettite was healthy to add to that.. if the stros won the series that year how could beltran have walked away, they could have made a few more runs even without bagwell..

More realistic than you think, this team will win nine games at best which would put our draft selection at around 14 - 17. Manziel will be available
