Kind of funny that everyone was drooling all over Barbosa during the Suns playoff runs and now so many are acting like he's an overpaid scrub because the Suns are terrible.

I don't see how he's not an upgrade over Brooks.

He still had an all star level Stephon Marbury, who averaged 8 assists per game that year, to set him up.

Not to mention, Joe Johnson who averaged 16ppg and 4 apg, and Leandro Barbosa who could penetrate.

They aren't Steve Nash, but they still got him easy dunks and lay ups at the basket.

Morey doesn't strike me as a panic dealer.

My guess is that you are correct, if we make this deal, its because we've already worked out another deal to get into the draft and pick up a PG.

If Yao goes down again, Scola-Amare sounds good to me. Much better than Scola-Hayes.

ps. Way to be optimistic before season even starts.

Maybe Morey will do the deal and then trade Barbosa for a pick in the draft?

I think you're right about Stromile, FishBulb. It would be like if the Rockets had never matched the Bobcats' offer sheet for Landry and the Rockets were now trying to pull off a draft day trade for Landry plus the #12 pick. Even if the Bobcats were drafting at #12 for Houston, the teams could not publicly comment on that trade until September.

As long as their are no specific trade restrictions on any of the players, and unless the trade must wait until after July 1 for the salaries to switch over to the next season's numbers in order for the trade to work under the salary cap, teams should be able to freely communicate regarding trades during the draft.

    1. We do have a quality PG in the bag. Lowry is BETTER than Brooks at every aspect of the game aside from shooting. And shooting can be improved. We would be getting another PG back in Barbosa who is better than both Brooks and Lowry, probably by a mile. Before you say Barbosa isn't a PG, neither is Brooks then.

    2. So not only do you not like this trade but think it is NUTS, even when we are getting back a top 5, no top 2 debatable PF, all because Brooks is involved?! Is Brooks an allstar? A top 5 PG? Top 2 debatable? Before the playoffs started it was debatable whether he should even be a STARTER. Or did you just mean nuts as in no way could we land Amare with Tmac/Brooks?

Calm down dude, they're not swinging for the fences on this one. We all knew the Rox were going to be in "predatory" mode. We have no intentions of keeping Tracy beyond this season. They have seen a chance at getting an All Star forward and a more than servicable PG for young talent.

Don't get me wrong I love Brooks but this could help us reach the top. I was once on the fence about it but am now on board, especially with Yao's foot issues.

I like Amare-Yao, Amare-Scola but I think we're giving up a bit too much. We should still be able to keep either Brooks or Landry imo.

Not too mention acquiring Stoudemire will allow us to effectively limit Yao's minutes, especially important now consider the (chronic) state of his foot.

I think this is a good deal for us. Amare is a very good Power Forward and maybe he just needs a change of scenery.

Barbosa isn't a true PG but he can play PG and is pretty explosive going to the basket.

I just hope we can sign Amare long term if we do make this trade.

Why is there so much hate for Barbosa????????
    Has anyone seen his game.
Better driver than Brooks, better shooter than Brooks, better defender than Brooks.
Barbosa shoots 47% from FG and 40% from 3 for career avg 12.9 a game with 1.5 turnovers.

Brooks shoots 40% from FG and 35.6% from 3 for a career avg 8.8 a game with 1.3 turnovers.

Now you can throw out avg points because Brooks just got the minutes this season and Barbosa plays in uptempo team offense but you can not dismiss Barbosa shooting % AT ALL. 3 years left on a deal for a guy who is only in his 7th season coming up is no worries to me.

I don't think I'd like that. If we get Barbosa I'd much rather keep the known commodity rather than go for an unproven rookie in a pretty weak class.

Brooks has speed and shooting touch. But he's a dumb PG. Against the Lakers in LA he keeps turning over by jumpin up in the air and pass to the perimeter player...his passed got intercepted time after time.

Acquiring Amare will allow us to trade Yao for Griffin.

Remember, we still have the MLE, I'm sure we can get a solid backup PG. Lowry can definitely be the starter. With our offensive firepower, we don't need him to score. We just need him to set up the offense. Amare is one of the best offensive players in the LEAGUE. He can shoot from mid-range, he can drive, and he is a star finisher. He will easily average the most points on Houston.

he's also planning for yao to be out, so he wants another scoring big man.
