I got to go to the Mavericks game yesterday and took my camera. Thought I'd share the pics. Well done. I had great seats to the last game I went to, but my pictures turned out crappy. Not sure what setting I was supposed to be using, but it wasn't the one I used..
I think Luis' vertical is so low, he goes into the ground on his jumpers. Serioulsy, I swear the guy gets off the ground about 1/2" on those. Nice pics, btw. Did you have your camera on some kind of continuous shot mode or were you just lucky to take those pics? Or maybe you just had the thing glued to your face ready to take a pic at a moment's notice? No matter, they look great! *EDIT* : If you could crop out everything but Cardinal and Hill in that first pic, they'd look like they were at a hoedown.
Thanks guys! I used a Canon T2i with a 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens (both consumer level). Before the game I was playing with the exposure settings and was pretty happy with f/5.6 aperture, 1/400 exposure, auto ISO, and auto white balance. I'm new to photography, but the T2i is pretty awesome. I left my camera on the whole game and framed most shots at the the rim so that my eye was not in the eye piece the whole game. I did not shoot in continuous, but I've been a basketball fan for long enough that I could time most shots. I'm disappointed that I missed a photo of Chase's dunk in the first half, I was changing the exposure. Jason Kidd's no look passes are simply amazing in person and made it tough to get action shots on the Mavs side.
Nice photos, FrancisFan... look real good. ClutchFans has a Flickr group for Houston Rockets fan photos if you want to add them there. http://www.flickr.com/groups/clutchfans/
You caught a pic of Luis playing close-up defense! A rarity, for sure. What I like most is how Dirk is using his knee, though. Nice pics.
FrancisFan, how are you liking the Rebel Ti2? I've been saving up to it. I hope to get it next month before my travels next year.
Thanks Clutch, I added a handful. I didn't realize it until now, but about 10 years ago I took some pictures at the Rocky Mountain Revue that I sent to you and was posted on CC (http://www.clutchfans.net/feature.cfm?FeatureID=77). I still have this irrational hate for Dirk stemming from that game, because I was sitting court-side and and Dirk was chasing the ball out of bounds for a save. After he missed the save, he gave me the dirtiest look and continued that throughout the game.
I love the T2i. I was looking for a DSLR just to play around with and have been happy with it. For me, it was between a T1i and a T2i, for the $150 difference (back in July) I thought that I'd might as well get the newest. Last week there was a T2i kit (W/ 18-55mm lens) and the 55-250mm lens (same one I took the pics with) for only $850.... check SlickDeals.net for some good deals. When researching, I learned Understanding Exposure was a must have book to learn the concepts. I think that it was definitely worth it.
http://www.quickstopdigital.com/dgt/product_info.php?csv=br&products_id=19505 Best prices, check the kits out (it's amazing) $760 for a 20 piece kit (includes 18-55m lens)
Actually anybody looking at this link should be cautious. Looks like a new retailer, only been online for 8 months.
Prices look good, but I personally would not buy from them. They have mostly good ratings on reseller-ratings, but their domain registration is rather new and only register it one year at a time (not a good sign). From some quick looking I did not find a physical location, my guess is that they're based out of NY. There's a handful of NY shops that have multiple online store fronts that that will basically screw with customers (have a low price on the site, then raise the prices once ordered, require kit packages with inflated prices, etc). Also, I don't think they're a Canon authorized resellers.
Don't know but eBay rating is/was 100% with over 250 feedback. For that much money, rather spend a few more dollars and get it from a more reputable seller. It was odd, I was looking at the Canon Ti2 and found this site yesterday and saw your post.......maybe it means, I should get it
Yeah, It's a toss up. Take a look at Canon Rebel T2i 18MP Digital SLR Camera + 18-55mm & 55-250mm IS Lenses - $868.95 w/ Free Shipping from B&H. Plus, you can add a "Canon 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III Autofocus Lens" for $60... though with the 55-250 IS, I don't see the typical person needing the non-IS 300mm.
