I live in Placedo, which is a little southeast of Victoria (maybe like 15 miles or so). I believe we (the Victoria/Port Lavaca area) were the area that got hit the hardest during Claudette, so if you paid attention then to the weather reports, I live around there. And calling Placedo a city is pretty funny. I feel like maybe I should get defensive about all the comments about the snowman...but I really don't care. I didn't make it and it is pretty funny looking now that I think about it. Of course, I got another picture of the "snow boner" and my neighbor's daughter standing by each other. Now I won't be able to see that picture in the same light. At least no one tried to hug it or anything. Just a FYI, but my yard still is pretty much covered with snow still (don't know how Houston is). Today was pretty cool because my 2 year old nephew came by and we all played in the snow. I continued to act like a crazy kid and would jump/roll/fall in the snow and make him laugh. Then my family had a snowball fight while he stood there laughing. I accidently hit him with one, and there was that moment where everyone paused, worrying that he would start crying, but he just brushed it off and laughed some more. Pretty good day. Basically, Snow + Family + Kids = Good Times. Awww.....wasn't that cute.
Well thanks for those pics. The picture of your front yard is unreal...seeing that amount of snow so far south is crazy. Also, congrats on the white Christmas. Our snow started to melt as soon as the sun came out, and by 11:00 AM I could barely find traces of ice on any rooftops. Last night was something I'll surely never forget, without a doubt. Playing around, having snowball fights with the nieces and nephews and acting like a 31 year old kid (today was my birfday) was fantastic! The ONLY negative was driving over the beltway bridge at 10:00 PM in the middle of the storm. The bridge was frozen solid, one line of cars sliding everywhere, 30 minutes to drive 1 mile. Scary doesn't even come close to describing that trip. Texans driving on snow would make a great comedy DVD for any state that gets snow with regularity. PS- I wish I coulda built me a snow boner. I mean, for the girlfreind or whatever. A nice hug picture would have been deece for a 'caption' thread.
We still have 6-7 inches in the front yard, the sun melted it in the streets but not some yards. The kids woke me up at 730 to open presents and by 8 we were out there again. Its 32 degrees right now, so in the morning the snowball fights will be on again. I like this, but it would suck if we had stuff like this all the time during the winter.
Corpus actually got more snow than Houston, was the first time it had snowed here since 1940. Of course, I was en route to Houston at the time. Driving through an honest to god blizzard. Cars had to pull off the roads, visibility was nothing, I ended up spending Christmas eve in Victoria. Where there was over a foot of snow on the ground. Car got stuck in a snowbank once, and had to get a truck to pull me out. A white Christmas in south Texas is a rare thing.
Sorry to bring this back up, but I had to share this. A friend of mine went to Galveston Christmas eve and got some awesome pictures. She emailed them to me, and I thought one of them would make a good postcard:
