I have a Blackberry 8130, but still miss the days off the same rotary or keypad phone sitting on the stand for 10 years. And then a cordless phone replacing that for another 10 years.
As was said earlier, if you're w/ T-Mobile, wait for the new Curve. If you're w/ AT&T and aren't feeling the iphone then you must get the Bold. If you're w/ verizon, don't even bother w/ the Storm.
I got a blackberry curve 8330 a few months ago and couldn't be happier. It does everything I could want and then some. Here's a review on cnet: http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones/rim-blackberry-curve-8330/4505-6452_7-32925232.html I don't know anything about the G1, but if you're going to get a blackberry make sure it's a curve as opposed to a pearl. I would recommend looking at cnet for reviews and comments on the other types of blackberry models and the g1 if you still haven't made up your mind.
Yeah it was supposed to be in early January but seems like its been delayed. Called the "cupcake update" http://www.cellphonesignal.com/new-cupcake-upadate-for-g1/
I still haven't made a decision but I'll wait until I'm eligible for an upgrade. It'll def be a G1 or new Blackberry Curve. Thanks, guys!
The way cell phone companies are competing for business, if you call, you may get them to waive any waiting period for your upgrade.
There's a way out there on sprint to get free Blackberry access, but no text. That would have to be added on later.
JR: It looks like the G1 gonna get the pin, 1,2, ... Wait a second, out of nowhere comes the iPhone with a steel chair. The iPhone hits the G1 with a chair shot! iPhone with the pin, 1,2,3. Somehow, someway, the iPhone wins! Not even scheduled to appear in this contest, the iPhone gets the victory, amazing. All joking aside, I think anything google backs, is a good pick. Yeah, blackberry has been in the game a long time, but with the use of OpenGL lite the G1 is a knockout blow. True, I usually don't like what apple pushes to the market, but the iPhone is actually a good product. The issue I have with apple is that they are so rediculously short sighted. The G1 was built with upgradability and compatability in mind. Apple feels like it's just easier to upgrade and throw away the hardware. Look at all the people who bought a photo iPod, then months later the video iPod came out. Realistically, you can get video on a photo iPod with some OS tweaks, but apple said eff it, let's start over. Google has never really been that way. BUT! Everyone seems to forget Windows mobile because of this latest push of other device manufacturers. Look, if you count Windows out you're an idiot. Microsoft is cooking something up, and the one thing they don't mind doing is learning from their competetion. Expect multi touch, mp3/4, divX, and a full web browser OS soon from them. Apple is still struggling to put flash on the iPhone, same with google. WinMobile already can do it. So just wait and see.
what new At&T Blackberry type phones are going to be coming out in the next 6 months. I use mine for email mainly but I would like a better web browser and games on it. I currently have a 8310 blackberry curve
I think I'll wait until the next upgrade for G1 or the blackberry curve. If blackberry curve has a better browser than the current curve then I'll get it. I think I might get G1 after all. I would sooo get Iphone but I don't like typing on the touchscreen and it's with AT&T. I doubt they would only offer data plans.
I just got the Samsung Instinct because I wanted to upgrade to something with web browsing and touch screen. Its pretty kick-ass so far. I like the built in GPS.
My wife just picked up one of these (Bold). Does anyone on the board have a Bold? If so...are you satisfied?
I'm stuck with Verizon so I can't really help you But my buddy works for AT&T and has a Bold. He rates it better than the Iphone but I believe it comes down to what features you want/use the most.
I've been looking to upgrade...I ruled out the iPhone just because the plans are expensive for as much as I talk, etc... I'm currently on T-mobile, but the network sux ass and i'm not sure I want to stay...if I do, I would get a G1 or HTC wing...If I go to sprint, i would get the HTC Touch Pro...they have the everything plan for $99/mo which IMHO, is pretty cheap...
I had the Wing and now have the G1. The Wing was great, but the G1 blows it out of the water. No comparison. My boyfriend upgraded to the G1 from the Wing after playing with mine. I LOVE my G1. I have small hands, so typing a text with the "chin" in the way was awkward for the first couple of texts, but I got used to it in no time. The camera is nothing to brag about, but performs well enough in a well lit room or daylight. (I can send you examples if you want.) Web browsing is flawless. Hopefully, we will be getting flash soon enough. (Link). Blackberry gets the nod for e-mail, but I've primarily used G-Mail for years, and the sync is flawless so the G-Mail app is perfect for me. The free apps that are currently in the market are convenient and useful. My only complaint when I first got the phone was an error of force closing the messaging program and general lagging if you had over 700 messages. I'm OCD about keeping my texts, so this was huge for me. Fortunately, an app was released that allows you to export your texts as csv or html and another to export to G-Mail. IMO, the Blackberry doesn't do anything the G1 can't do, but soon the G1 will do much more than a Blackberry can.
Thanks for the info...I was all for the G1 but my brother-in-law has had problems with his, mostly with dropped calls...do you have that problem? To me it's either the phone or the service...I experience dropped calls alot, but I've dropped my phone 100's of times and I'm not sure what to think...
I've heard other people complain about frequent dropped calls with T-Mobile, but this has never been a problem for me. My phone is constantly falling on the floor. I've dropped it 3 times alone on concrete. If he had no problems with T-mobile coverage before, it could be that his 3G is spotty and causing the problem. I may not be a reliable source in this case, because usually my 3G is toggled off to save battery. And unfortunately Di, I don't know when it's going to be released.
to help you decide, a new review on the curve 8900 lots of photos http://i.gizmodo.com/5140597/t+mobile-blackberry-curve-8900-first-impressions
