this is what I've been saying from the first discussions of a Durant trade. teams aren't falling all over themselves to trade for a guy who costs them $54.7m for a dude that's old and oft injured not to mention the amount of salary required to pull it off (at least $43.76m in outgoing salary) for what amounts to a 1 year rental - or even on an extension - and the difference in incoming Vs outgoing salary is literally the difference between the 1A and 2A ..... What teams have $43.76m in salary laying around that they don't mind throwing into a deal or that doesn't totally deplete your depth or consist of critical starters? They aren't getting a kings ransom for Durant.
Yeah, his defense is really bad, but we could probably cover for it with our roster construction I think. The Suns couldn't, they basically have a bunch of no-defense shooters and nothing else. I would only sign him if he was willing to come off the bench though.
I don't expect them to sit, I just wouldn't be surprised if they did or decreased their playing time just to avoid injuries. Especially Beal, who just came back from one last week. With the season over there is no motivation to keep playing him. Portland is sitting Simons and he's six years younger.
I don't disagree with anything that you said ...other than you are responding to a clip that has nothing to do with what you said. lol. The clip was discussing how the Suns really need to trade KD. That's all. The clip wasn't discussing KD's trade value. The Rockets clearly have the most leverage for any trade w/ the Suns. On that, can we discuss how brilliant Stone was in flipping the Nets picks for Suns picks? Cause Stone took all kinds of crap for that and now he's looking genius.
I don’t disagree. I’d take him for the MLE after a buyout in a heartbeat. But I don’t know if I buy the buyout stuff. Beal isn’t giving up a dime on this contract. He knows he can make the MLE afterwards from any number of teams, so his buyout number will be his contract minus the MLE (hence, he still gets paid in full). That means that the Suns’ cap figure only drops by around $12M. Under the second apron ($207M), but still over the first. And it would cost them roughly $82M to get there. They could buy out a $10M player to get under the second apron and gain the same amount of limited flexibility for much cheaper. *This is all based on my novice cap understanding
Booker is the only player that could bring back a lucrative deal for them, picks and young players. They have no assets to acquire other players besides Durant, and teams are not going to be lining up to give up a package of young talented players and picks. It would be wise for them to sit Booker and avoid any dumb injury that could lower his value. I would play Beal every minute and make him earn every cent of that contract. They are not going to get anything of value for Beal if he even agrees to be traded.
I don’t think so. PHX owns tiebreaker over POR and SAS. If they miraculously end up with the same record, it’s a 3-way tie. I’m not sure about the 3-way tiebreaker rule. But I assume no way would PHX be #8.
How does the tiebreaker apply to the draft order? Wouldn't teams with the tiebreaker want the better pick? They should leave it up to the team with the tiebreak to pick what they want to do regarding draft order. Cause the team that "wins" the tiebreaker actually loses with respect to the draft.
The FO makes me nervous, man. Trading for a KD rental would be so shortsighted and does not guarentee anything. Being patient and waiting for the right consolidation trade is the way to play this. We may not have a SGA, but we can take notes from the OKC rebuild. Would be pissed if the Rockets blew their trade wad on KD after the horrendous Silas years only to cash in too early.
What are the acceptable parimeters to obtain Booker and Durant? The Suns picks? Jalen Green, Sengun? Dillon Brooks, FVV, or Jabari Smith? Trade filler? I am curious about some possible packages.
I think the Suns are in no position to negotiate. They are a team that needs to start from square one. The problem is they have nothing to start from. They have no draft picks, They are paying 3 guys 150 million, Durant is old and is not worth as much as everyone thinks, Beal is worth a bag of chips, Booker also showing his value isn't that great either(33% from 3 for who is supposed to be an elite shooter) The Suns have to find a way to get rid of those 3 guys and if it means taking peanuts on the dollar then so be it.
Why would we make their picks worse by giving them the help they need? Also DB has been amazing for us being the 2nd best defender+shooting 39% from 3. I know KD is great but he only has a year left in his deal then you need to pay him the max..
I read an opinion somewhere earlier today that said the only logical thing for the Suns to do is trade both KD and Booker to the Rockets in return for draft picks, Jalen and whatever else is needed to match salaries. 1 KD gone; everyone knows that. 2 Trading KD while keeping Booker makes no sense because they would be mediocre at best, which means finishing 9th/10th in the west, at best. In that scenario, Booker would either request a trade over the summer or sometime prior to the trade deadline when he became disgusted enough. So, despite the Suns public commitment to keeping Booker and his professed love for the "Valley of the Sun", he and the Suns must agree this summer it is best to part company knowing KD is gone. 3 Beal will almost certainly be bought out since he's literally untradeable. He might offer the Suns a couple of million dollars incentive; probably not much more. We'll learn a lot about Booker if he wants to stay if KD does not. Rockets would have dominant leverage if Mat Ishbia screws his head on and approaches them like he should. QUESTION: If you are looking at it from the Suns point of view, can anyone here logically argue a megadeal with the Rockets isn't their best option?
Tankaton Determining the NBA Draft Order... 9. Random drawing decides who picks first between teams with same record 10. Tied lottery teams split their ping pong balls evenly, and any odd remainder and the better draft order position are given to the random drawing winner
